Truvia

My aunt just gave me truvia to try, it says 2 carbs on back. I am reluctant to waste 2 carbs on 1 little pack. I almost never use a sweetener, except for Davinci SF vanilla. Opinions please.

I use it pretty liberally (to sweeten tea. I don't cook with it), but if you want something with fewer carbs you can try stevia or a liquid form of AS that has 0 carbs.

I don't count the carbs from this sweetener as they come from the erythritol and it has a very low glycemic index...truvia/erythritol and stevia and ez sweets/liquid splenda are the only sweeteners I don't count into my carb count. Some others may chime in with others they count or don't count.

I got this from a post by "sbarr"
For what it's worth, here is a reply from one of the founders on another forum on same topic.

I am one of the founders of Zevia. We created Zevia because before it there was never a sugar-free, zero carb, natural soda.

I have good news. There are ZERO net carbs in Zevia.

The carbohydrates in Zevia come from erythritol, which is extracted naturally from vegetables. The human body does not digest erythritol, but rather excretes it unchanged. The carbs never convert to energy, have no calories, and have no impact on glycemic index, blood sugar, or insulin levels.

The Belly Fat Cure recommends 6 servings of carbs per day. If you count Zevia as a serving, then you are depriving yourself of real carbs, and not getting the type of energy and nutrition that carbs provide.

That’s why we say Zevia has zero “net ” carbs.

For these reasons, we believe the proper S/C ratio should be 0/0.

So why do we show carbs on the can when there aren’t really carbs? The FDA requires us to label them, even though the carbs are passed through the body without taking effect. It’s odd I know.

To learn more, please visit http://www.AboutErythritol.com.

If you have questions, please contact me. My email address is dnewman@zevia.com

Thank you. Chill & Enjoy!

Truvia is erythritol and stevia so the same would pertain to it as zevia's sweeteners.

Does the Truvia have fillers? These can add up - this is one of the arguments for liquid sweeteners and why recipes in the recipe forum often have multiple nutritional counts based on the type of sweetener (powder vs. liquid)

According to the "Wheat Belly" cookbook I was reading last night, he says that Truvia contains Erythritol which is considered one of the best sweeteners to use.

Thanks, I will give it a try, with some coffee or tea sometime. I usually just drink water, and maybe a cup of coffee (with sf davinci syrup)

I'd check the package to see if there are fillers, don't assume it's sugar alcohols. That's why Splenda packets aren't 0 carbs. I can use a few at a time, so for me it would add up, if that wasn't sugar alcohol and it was fillers.

truvia is only erythritol and stevia - no fillers. I count it as zero net carbs.

I really like Truvia. If you use the little packets, Costco now carries them.

There is a truvia baking blend that comes in a big bag that contains filler or sugar...I saw it at a store recently so don't use that one.

I use truvia religiously. It has never caused me to stall or gain on the scale. I use it whenever I want without giving it a 2nd thought or thinking it will give me any gains, but everyone is different.
