TRADER JOES

We have a Trader Joes opening in a Tampa Fl, which is close to my home. Anything I should know about the store or what they specialize in or when they have good sales? Thanks, Sass

I searched for the word "trader" and found 52 Trader Joes threads in the Main Lobby.

Here are two from 2014:

I just went to a Trader Joes for the first time this weekend. The one I went to was about the size of an Aldi, but it was nicer and had better quality products. Some people say the Trader Joe's store brand is even better than many name brand products.

A recent find for me at Trader Joe's was their bacon ends & pieces. The the pieces of bacon that don't make it into the packages with neat pretty rows. Cheaper and mostly fat... but that's what I want.

My Trader Joe's Top 10:
Olive oil
Ghee (clarified butter)
Coconut oil
cheeses - great variety
meats - lunch meats and butcher meats
avocados
guacamole mix (box with avocados, tomato, garlic, shallot, lime)
low carb chocolate bar (YUM!)
almond flour
marinara sauce (2 carb/serving) I think it's called marinara w/ olive oil - so good.

Full-fat greek yogurt, burratta cheese (swoon), almond meal, ground flax meal, frozen green beans (best EVER!), frozen edamame, arugula, psyllium husks, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds (raw and roasted), all sorts of nuts - I love TJs. It's a bit of a hike for me to get to one, but I make the effort every couple of months and really stock up.

Lots of faves at TJs---Their olive oil and balsamic vinegar brands are great and very reasonably priced compared to others. Love their TJ's sprouted wheat bread, 4 NCs per slice. GREAT selection of nuts. Hanson's diet sodas, no aspartame if it's an issue for you.

A poster here turned me onto my latest fave there---TJ's Hollandaise sauce! All made, you just have to heat it up. It's is excellent. Love it on broccoli and asparagus, and even made myself some eggs Benedict w/a GLCBC bagel. Heaven.

When the Trader Joe store opened in Plano Texas I was first in line. But after a few months our Aldi stores started carrying lots of organic and low carb products at much cheaper prices. Even the wines are cheaper. Aldi and Trader Joes are part of the same company. Everyweek a new healthy product shows up in our local Aldi store.

Enjoy!

The Tampa store is still too far from me to be an option. ...especially since my car died! lol... Though my Fitbit would love me if I walked that far!

I'm sure everyone has a "list" of TJ's favorites, but part of the fun is coming up with your own!

Here are some of mine:
Organic fruits and vegies (especially avocados!)
Organic (sometimes grassfed) meats (beef and chicken, sometimes buffalo!), Fresh and frozen fish. I think they have pork, too.
Chicken breakfast sausages with no bad additives.
Cheeses of every description (I love the burrata!)
Nuts
Freeze Dried berries
Low carb tortillas if you eat them (I don't)
Coconut oil
Olive Oil
Stevia
Almond and Cashew Meals
Heavy Cream (Fresh and in steri-pack boxes)
Organic butter
Kerry Gold butter
Full Fat Greek Yogurt
Eggs (but not pastured)
Tinned sardines, smoked salmon, smoked trout
Coffee and tea
Fish Oil and Vitamin D capsules
Coconut milk (I don't like their brand)
73% chocolate bars (1 square is 4 gms. carbs)
Chia seeds
Ground flax
Jerky (I don't buy it because of the sugar)
Seaweed snacks (Watch out for the Wasabi--WOW!)

Have fun. We hardly ever go to a regular grocery store any more except for paper goods and cleaning supplies we can't get at Costco.

I just read today that their olive oil is very highly rated for authenticity (my word, meaning it's not fake )...so I'm going as soon as I can to pick some up. I also love their selection of cheeses and nuts. I used to love their frozen prepared meals, but now that I'm eating LC I need to check the labels more...

Bacon ends and pieces for me, also. No nitrates. In the same section, they also have pork belly, already cooked, just slice and crisp it up.

We had a TJ open just last month. To be honest I just wasn't impressed. All packaged, frozen or processed foods. Even the produce was mostly bagged. No butcher counter per se either. Maybe this is a baby one? I'll have to make a list of some of these favorites. Some of them I do buy, but mostly from Whole Foods. Thanks!

I can't find full fat Greek yogurt at mine, and I've looked in 2 Atlanta locations maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

TJ coconut oil is very reasonably priced, as is their unsweetened cocoa powder

They should have it.
The kind I get is in a large blue and white container.
TJ's is one of the only places around here that carry full fat Greek yogurt.

If you cannot find it be sure to ask one of the employees.

Yes, the cocoa powder is very good.

In Sarasota they have a great selection of kosher items. Much less expensive than publix.

Love their kosher ground turkey....their turkey bacon is the best. Not kosher though.
