mini goals

Ok so this time around I have decided to set mini goals instead of one big one. Why haven't I done this before?!? It really makes it seem much more manageable. I hit that first goal today...way earlier then I expected. It is such a good feeling

Yes, mini goals are so much better because we can convince ourselves they're reachable. It was easier for me to think "I only have to lose 40 pounds (none of mine were more than that)" than if it was always in my head that I had almost 200 pounds to lose.

Good for you and congrats on reaching your first goal!

I'm with you there! I have set mini goals too ~ and I would like to have mini rewards for when I reach those goals. My goal is to lose 40 lbs (goals are subject to change)
10 lbs = pedicure
20 lbs =
25 lbs =
30 lbs =
35 lbs =
40 lbs =
I could really use some ideas for rewards apparently

I've had to rethink my goal setting too recently, instead of looking at the bigger picture I have mentally chopped up my "goal" weights I'd like to see and why.

Right now I am looking towards 189. Silly number to shoot for for some, but to me it represents the lowest I ever got in my adult life. Anything after that will be virgin fat loss lol. I'm almost there! Then what?!!? Maybe 169 (because that's what my very fit fiancé weighs?)

I have a mini goal - to stay under 25 carbs/day for the week my hubby is home.

he comes home for a week on Sunday, has been gone working for 3 months. I am so nervous I will blow it, but I dont have to! I can do this!

Im trying to plan our meals, he wants to go out on a date, so I am going to ask if i can choose the place, etc... I bought him and our son some snacks, so Im planning snacks for me too...

I hope I can do this!

Mini goals worked for me. A big goal was too daunting.

Mini goals with non-food rewards every 10 pounds worked really well for me.

I can't remember all the rewards... but at 50# - I bought myself a new tervis tumbler - Drink more water! and 60#'s was a new Calvin Klien fragrance!!!

My lowest adult weight is just 1.4#s away and my mini goal is to be at that weight by March 5th! When I turn 40! After that I may need to change my reward schedule to every 5#'s as I am going to lose focus w/ this slow weight loss!

I just lost 20 pounds, I did that in 2 months. My reward is going to be a hair cut & color. Going back to my natural hair color.

My next mini goal is to lose 10 pounds. Not sure what I will do. I've got to think about it.

Yes I love mini goals. I'm 8lbs down of my first mini goal of 13. 13 puts me into a decade I want to be in. After that it's 10 at a time. So much more easier to manage for me. I am not a big picture person!

Current mini goal is to lose 5 more pounds. That puts me in the 180s and into some virgin fat. Haven't seen the 180s in many years.

I have made it to VIRGIN FAT LOSS!!!! Only .4#'s but I am now below my lowest adult weight!!!!!

Mini Goal of 185 - met 3/10/14 - missed my birthday by 5 days but MINI GOAL MET nonetheless!

How is everyone else doing on their mini goals? Did you guys come up with some good non-food rewards? I would really like to hear as I need some incentive to keep moving the scale in the right direction!

My mini goal is to get my wedding ring back on! That is about 20lbs more lost than the 15 I've lost already. Then on to some smaller clothes I ordered for the new mini goal after the wedding ring goal is accomplished.

I find it rewarding to set 10% of my total weight as a goal, and when I achieve that to set a goal of 10% again. 10% is significant and achievable.
206-21=185
185-19=166 (working on this one now)
166-17=149

Ok don't laugh everyone but one of my mini goals is to be able to use a REGULAR size bath towel and have it close completely and be able for it to hold when you tuck the top in! I am sure that I am not the only one here that has ever had that thought cross their mind, am I?

jerickson - Not laughing at all! It wasn't a goal I thought about ... but when it happened! I thought "that's kinda nice!" and it is something I notice quite often now! I am almost 5'10" so I can weigh more and have my towels close I guess!

palegirl - love the 10% idea, but I think I need more rewards than that! I lose slowly too...

Cherry - Now thats a goal!!!

My goals are now every 5#'s... I guess because we are rolling into spring I should set my reward at a PEDICURE- not really a girly girl, but the toes really do look better painted in flip flops!

I have all sort of mini goals and things I look forward to....I look at every five pounds a "mini win" and every 10 as a slightly bigger "mini win" lol. I also have a lot of non scale victories that I look forward to...my next big one is reaching a point where I don't ever need to use a seat belt extender on a plane...I fly a lot and I HATE that SO SO MUCH!

I love the rewarding part...I just don't reward anything with food...but I do agree with a new haircut or nails done or just a day out to myself to go thru the thrift shops or craft stores...

That is how I did it. Worked out well.

Goal 1: 220 (weight I started at the first time I lost weight)
Goal 2: below 200
Goal 3: 175 (Just sounded good)

After that, my goals were just 5 pounds at a time. I ended up losing a lot more weight than I ever thought I would. I never would have set my end goal at 145. I would have thought that was impossible. My biggest hope was to get below 175. However even that seemed improbable at the beginning of my weight loss journey.

My husband came up with my reward system. I can only collect every 20 lbs, but for every 5 I get an accessory, every 10 I get a pair of shoes and every 20 I get a new outfit. So every 20 lbs I get 4 accessories, 2 pairs of shoes and 1 new outfit.
Just 2 more pounds and I get to go shopping.
