Non-scale victories you're waiting for

I have absolutely loved reading everyone's non-scale victories. Now I'll start the ball rolling with victories you're waiting for.

I'll start with an embarrassing one. I returned from a week at Atlantis in the Bahamas with my 5 yo and a friend. I did everything to make the most of it for Lindsey - I walked on beach and around pool in my suit , swam with the dolphins, rode a jet ski, with pictures of everything - I was not going to deprive my daughter of activities with her mother.

...but, I was not able to fit in floatation device on the lazy river with my daughter in my lap. I couldn't even sit comfortably alone without feeling like a turtle on my back. I rode the lazy river in the tube supported by my shoulders above and my body below the tube.

By this time next year, I will fit in an inner tube with my daughter in my lap. I doubt I'll be able to afford the Bahamas next year, but I will ride some inner tube with my daughter in my lap. Granted, she may not want to sit in my lap, but da**it, I'll ride some lazy river somewhere with her in my lap. This might be me: and Lindsey but I will have this victory.

Next?

A trip to the Bahamas is what motivated me to get serious about weight loss. I was determined to have pictures and when I got home and saw them I was mortified. I am starting to be ok with seeing myself in pictured now. It's a good feeling.

I am definitely waiting for that day when I look at my pictures and don't look like the 'biggest' person in the room. For this reason I have never taken a second look at party pics.

Second one will be seeing a thinner version of me in the mirror when doing group fitness classes.

Third one would be looking normal in a pair of jeans.Right now, jeans are not my best friends. And I am happy warmer days are here,so I can get into hide all skirts.

I did not think I had any NSVs I am waiting for... And then I thought of one! lol...

I am waiting for my best ring, a special gift to myself when I graduated college in 2000, to fit again. I had it sized down years ago when I was at my lowest adult weight & in the best shape of my life. When I gained weight (menopause should be banned) I did not want to resize it up. Fitting in that ring will be a great success for me. It will happen this year.

What I'm most looking forward to is being able to shop at regular stores without having to hunt for the biggest size they carry and then sometimes leave nearly in tears when they don't have ANY size that fits me. It's hard because plus size stores always seem to carry frustratingly unfashionable clothes. They are usually more expensive too! (I'm lookin' at you, Lane Bryant)

I want all of the NSVs already listed!

Some other things I'm looking forward to:
  • Being able to easily do my own pedicures again
  • Not taking up the whole seat at a theater, in a plane, etc. (I don't quite bulge over now, but there's no extra room )
  • Being able to comfortably cross my legs! I loved that during the brief period I was small enough to do it.

Looking forward to going to a bra fitting shop, once I'm close to maintenance mode, and getting a proper bra fitting and buying some really good bras. At my heaviest, I was a 42H - not fun - and now as they're shrinking so fast, I don't want to "waste" money on a really good bra until I am closer to where I want to be. Give me another 15 pounds down and I am making myself an appointment!

Oh god where do I start?

*Being able to shop in misses department for both tops and bottoms. I currently wear size 14 pants and 1X or 2X in tops, picture a round lollipop on top with a smaller stick on bottom, lol. Hello Ann Taylor, White House Black Market and every other regular size store I pass in the mall.

*I, like others on the forum have come home empty handed after searching in vain for plus size tops that fit right and do not display my spare tire and other oversized body parts, or do not feature a kitten playing with a ball of yarn plastered on the front of the shirt.

*Yes, to take pictures without feeling like I am the biggest woman in the picture.

*Being able to cross my legs for the 1st time in 15 years.

* Not dreading formal functions & weddings where I want to wear a dress instead of a blouse & skirt.

* Being able to shop for bras in a smaller size at a B&M store, instead of paying $60.00 to order on the internet.

Hmmm. What am I looking forward to?

My husband and I are going on our first vacation in 7 years (would qualify as our honeymoon). Going on a cruise. I would like to be able to wear a bathing suit and feel cute.

I would like to be able to cross my legs again.

To be able to bend over and tie my shoes without feeling like my lungs are going to be squished up through my eyeballs LOL

I can probably shop in my own closet and storage until next winter! I have some cute work outfits that would be awesome to wear to the office. I refuse to buy office wear in this size (and the expense!), so the last year I've been sliding through on semi-business casual. I would like to look "sharp" again.

I have BIG calves. I'm way out of proportion. Slim legged pants? Yeah that only works if I buy something two sizes too big. But I really want to be able to go skiing next winter and teach my little ones. I can't fit the boots right now. Even men's are too small. Same with my rollerblades. I'm looking forward to being able to do that again (used to by my favorite activity).

Those are my big ones.

The NSV that I'm looking forward to the most is going down a cup size or two. I'm hitting close to a DD, so it would be nice to hit C territory again. I'm just hoping I won't experience the rock in sock phenomena

Someone to actually notice that I've lost some weight. I'm down 24 lbs since the beginning of April, I am down more than one size, and no one notices. I guess it's because I have a long way to go.

- Shopping in regular sizes (12 and below) - I've never done that. The smallest I've ever been as an adult is a super tight 14 for about 2 seconds.

- Wearing a dress or skirt - I always wear pants, and have never worn a dress or skirt as an adult. I don't ever wear them because they either make me feel huge or matronly; usually both . I also hate the chaffing.

- My thighs not touching. This will probably take another 80lbs, if not more.

- A flat tummy.

- Wearing heels again - they are just too painful right now. My poor feet cannot handle carrying all my weight on the balls alone.

- A shorter term NSV: fitting in size 16s again. The last time that happened was almost a decade ago, and it lasted like 2 months. Another 25lbs to go.

You know that statistic that says "X percent of people who lose weight regain it within five years"? (The number X can vary.. I've seen 90%, 95%, 99%.)

I started losing weight in 2008. I first hit the 150s in fall of 2010. So, I have completed almost 4 years of maintenance. If I can stay the course for another year and 3 months (until the fall of 2015), I will reach that five-year benchmark. If I can do that, I will have beat the odds big time!!

(I should probably buy a lotto ticket on that day, eh?)

I'm eagerly awaiting the day I look in the mirror and don't see a fat man looking back!

Dropping from "big and tall" to just tall! Shirt size already down to XL from XXL. Not sure if I'll ever wear a "Large" or not. They are very tight around the shoulders.

What am I looking forward to?

Being able to go to the mall and shop in any store I want.

Going to Disney and not having to turn sideways to stuff myself through a turnstyle.

Going to the beach. I live in Florida but won't go due to my size.

Going to concerts and sporting events. I very rarely go now unless I can guarantee myself an aisle seat and my husband will be the one next to me having to put up with my body spilling over into his seat.

I look forward to plugging my specs into a BMI or body fat calculator, and seeing that I actually fall into a "normal" range. I doubt I'll ever get there with most typical BMI charts, but I will at least fall out of their "OBESE" category.
