Negative Ketostix

Hello All,

Ok so I know everyone says "don't pay too much attention to Ketostix" but I've just tested and I've had a negative response .. First time it hasn't turned purple?!

I had a cheat meal last Sat but since then I've been back on the wagon & I've actually been using an app to track my carb intake and I'm even below the 20g each day!

I don't believe in weighing myself too often but am pretty sure I must be losing as my diet has been 63% fat, 33% protein..

Any clues?

Again...ketostix are probably a more reliable indicator of whether you're drinking enough fluids. They are a very inaccurate measure for ketosis.

Suggestions? Yes. Continue with what you're doing.

I never get more than trace on ketostix even if I am fasting. I purchased a blood ketone monitor and I find it most useful in determining whether I am in ketosis. Which I am, always. But you'd never know it from my urine ketostix because I am a good girl and drink LOTS of fluids.

ive been using them for almost a week now.

only in the last 2 days have I gotten ANYTHING above trace amounts. Ive been doing low carb for 2 months now.
the last 2 nights, ive seen dark purple. Testing at night seems to work for me.
I show completely negative in the morning, and slowly throughout the day get more dark.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you see ANY pink at all, it means your body is producing, so that's good enough for me.

Two things:
1) where can you get a blood ketone monitor!
2) I've had negatives off and on, usually in the first or second purpley range though. I can't predict when I am in ketosis or not, but my pee is always ample and very light colored, and never is there any question of me drinking enough water.

I don't worry about it, as long as I am in ketosis most days. I am not really losing right now, but I'm maintaining and thinking about new things to try to lose again. I have to be below 20 g of carbs per day to lose for some reason, so if I go between 20 and 40 g, I maintain but won't lose.

Those things never work for me.

I know Amazon has decently priced blood ketone meters. I've wanted one for so long I considered adding it to my wedding registry :-P

Ntombi clarified when she posted something along the lines of "You're either in Ketosis or you aren't."

So even if the ketostix were accurate, a "trace" result would be the same as the "moderate" results. Ketosis is ketosis, there's no gray area there.
