popcorn???

Do you eat it while doing low carb? Does it stall you?

dasiey 01-19-2014 04:28 PM

I don't.

finallylosing 01-19-2014 04:30 PM

I ate it when I first started low carb and it did not stall me at all, but I had a lot of weight to loose and I found after a while I just stopped it. I probably haven't had any in about a year now and I don't think I would waste my carbs on it now. If you can fit it into your carb count then I would think you would be okay.

baseballmom 01-19-2014 04:44 PM

I was just thinking every now and then. I hardly ever ate it before and doubt I will eat it much now. Just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on it.

I do LC JUDDD. I sometimes do eat popcorn on a high day, most likely on the weekend. During the week I keep my low days at about 20ish carbs and my high days around 100. On the weekends I have a higher day where I have things like pizza or chips or popcorn or a dessert. Basically, just whatever thing I have been wanting all week.

clackley 01-19-2014 05:05 PM

No popcorn here. In fact no food from corn or any other grain.

mrs B 01-19-2014 06:10 PM

I like popcorn from time to time, it however does not like me:sick:

Same here. BUT I have pretzels that I'm eating occasionally just to get rid of when I want something crunchy. Obviously carby but I want them from time to time even though it'll take me out of ketosis and even tho it's flour. Now, when they're gone, I'm hoping some nuts will replace the crunchy salty I crave sometimes.

So I suppose if I REALLY wanted some popcorn, I'd have some if I could just have a few. But that's one of those things that is so hard to stop at a handful and would really give me no benefit.

LowCarbedD 01-19-2014 06:21 PM

No.....Ive loved it...but it isn't worth the carbs! I tried some at the movies a while ago and found it wasn't as good as I remembered...so now its easy to skip

Ntombi 01-19-2014 07:11 PM

No. Not only is it not low carb, it's high glycemic. I skip it.

Mistizoom 01-19-2014 07:19 PM

I have maybe a quarter cup of my son's popcorn at the movies once in a while. I am able to stop myself a that and I do include it in my daily carb count.

CuriousCat 01-19-2014 07:26 PM

Christmas Eve I took my granddaughter to the movies to see Frozen and had some movie popcorn while I was there. I started itching like crazy that night and was in a full blown severe allergy reaction the next day with sneezing, itchy eyes, etc etc etc. I'm never touching the stuff again.

Oh and I had no idea that I had a corn allergy at all.

Same here. I don't eat any grains and no starchy vegies (in any form).

cfine 01-20-2014 11:44 AM

iF I decide to have something off plan, which should be no more than once a month if you want to stay in ketosis, popcorn is usually what I pick.

According to what I've read, 4 grams of carbs equals 1 tsp of sugar in your blood. So, yea, that's not worth it too me.

I never knew that. That's very helpful to keep in mind!

Trigger828 01-20-2014 08:22 PM

yes I eat it occasionally. I loved popcorn and had it alot and could mindlessly shovel in tons of it down my throat :) now it is every now and then. not a huge fan anymore but when I am in a rare mood for some, yes I do eat it.

regarding stall when eating it, eh, not sure. I didn't eat as much of it. few and far between and seriously can't remember if it caused a stall or not?????

I found that little jewel on Maria Emmerich's site. She has a lot of really helpful information.

When I want something like that I eat pumpkin seeds in the shell. Pumpkin seeds "push the same buttons" as popcorn--salty and crunchy.

We carve a bunch of big pumpkins at Halloween, and I roast and save them.

When I run out, I like Trader Joe's brand.

I sneak a bag into movies, when I know the smell of popcorn is going to make me really crave it.

Mimosa23 01-23-2014 11:49 PM

I don't eat popcorn, it does not fit in with a LC lifestyle in my opinion.

Corn is not LC, whichever way you look at it.

When I go to the movies and may want to snack, I take these with me. They're under a dollar at the supermarket, and satisfy the nibbling urge while being completely on plan.

Ditto! Where do you find those? That would be nice to have an option like that.

Ntombi 01-24-2014 04:27 PM

They're in my supermarket, in the cheese and dairy section (not the specialty cheeses). A couple of the flavors have added sugar, so I stick to the habanero and chipotle, neither of which are particularly spicy. They're little chunks of real cheese, rolled in seasoning.

I keep a couple in my fridge for times I'm going to be out at a place I might want to snack.

Thanks for sharing ntombi! Those look great! Will look for them tomorrow! :):):)

snowangel9 01-24-2014 04:39 PM

Cool. Thanks! I'll have to check around. That would be nice just as a snack too.

Iwantlessofme 01-24-2014 05:34 PM

Oh wow do those flavored cheeses look good!!! I am going to be looking at the store for sure. Thank you!!

seadiel 01-24-2014 10:07 PM

I have noticed the unpoped popcorn that isn't microwaved has 26carbs & 6fiber 20netcarbs for 7.5cups of POP'd popcorn which is actually a lot of popcorn to eat when you see it. I normally eat a cup with butter and salt whenever I have a craving for something salty. Never seemed to stalled me.
