Did You Stay On Plan On Your Birthday?

Hi All,

I am slowly creeping to my goal. Started at 166 and am 157 today....Yay! The only obstacle I am facing is that my birthday is in 10 days. Hmmmmm can I stay on plan for that day? It's my big 40 too. Not only do I have to avoid off plan foods but what about avoiding a long island iced tea or too? Decisions.....Decisions.

Just wondering what others did on their birthday?

Any advice or suggestions would be most helpful.

I wish peace, joy,and stamina to all of you today.

Don't know where I'd be without all of you.

I think it is up to the individual really. Some people do, some don't. Either way, have a great day!

Yes. I stay on my nutrition plan 100% every single day. No exceptions.

I am not on a diet that I occasionally go off of. The foods I eliminated are ones I have determined to be unhealthy for me. I'm not interested in harming my body. I'm going to be the best me I can be. Every single day.

I did stay on plan during my birthday, holidays, and anything else that's come up. For me, this has just become my way of life and this is the way I eat now, so I had no trouble with it.

Yep. I turned 40 in October, and stayed on plan through three birthday dinners, two eaten out, and one cooked at home (not by me). I had a lot of fun, and was very glad I kept to plan.

I do allow myself three off-plan foods (one serving, not whole meals) per year, so I could have chosen to eat something off plan that day, but I didn't.

Unlike everyone above - I did not, and will not. I eat on plan 99% of the year but I choose (assuming I feel like it) to eat whatever I want on the following days:
My birthday
My husband's birthday
Valentine's day (we go to the melting pot every year)
Christmas
and sometimes New Year's eve depending on what that brings

Now, I'm not generally a spiraler. If I say I will eat what I want on my birthday it's only that day and I don't usually have a problem. I also don't go super crazy binging on candy and wheat.

Personally I believe why not - I like to enjoy things that aren't on plan sometimes. And it builds my confidence up to know that I can decide it's just for a day.

If you are new to this and don't have self control, then I would probably wait until you feel like you do.

That is great! It is what you want.

I do want to point out that not everyone wants to eat junk food. not indulging in off plan foods does not mean one is feeling deprived of anything. Even on special occasions.

I have no desire to eat junk & never feel deprived. I eat healthy all the time because that is what I want. Many of us have come to this same way of thinking.

I do agree that, if you are considering going off plan, you need to know yourself well. I used to follow nutrition plans that specifically included free meals and/or free days. They worked great for me but they were disasterous for many.

Yeah, like I said, I have an agreement with myself that I can choose to eat off-plan up to thrice a year. In 2013, I chose to do so twice, and in small enough portions that I was still in ketosis. It just so happened that I wasn't inclined to do so on my birthday.

I am also someone who can eat one thing and get right back on plan. But I am always weighing whether it's going to be worth possibly being out of ketosis and giving up the benefits of being keto-adapted, and mostly the answer is heck no!

You have to know yourself, and be REALLY honest.

I did this year. I made a low carb cheesecake and that satisfied my need for a "celebratory sweet". Plus dh likes cheesecake and not cake, so he helped me eat it. I haven't always stayed on plan for my birthday or special occasions, but lately, I realize that I feel so in control the next day having stayed on plan.

For me, it's about health. When I eat off plan, I develop tingling and numbing in my right arm. I know that has to be inflammation setting in and it scares the bejeebers outta me. Knowing that helps me stay on plan. I'm not getting any younger and I want to be as healthy as I can.

My birthday is in October and I traditionally celebrate it at Six Flags Fright Fest. This year, I split a chocolate-and-coconut covered candy apple with my sister, but other than that stayed 100% on plan.

The year before, we each got our own banana-split funnel cakes, so the shared apple was a definite improvement.

Heck, I don't even stay on plan for my friend's birthdays. My coworker's birthday was yesterday. I made her my very favorite high carb cake and brought it to work on Friday. (I will admit that I had ulterior motives. I have been craving that cake for months).

I'm not proud to admit this but the six of us almost ate the whole 9 by 13 cake. My friend had 2 pieces left to take home for herself and her daughter. Funny thing is I lost 2 pounds after eating the cake.

I am lucky in the sense that I can usually have an off plan meal and get right back on plan with no ill effects. I am fine with getting right back on track and usually do not gain any weight from it unless I eat off plan more than one day in a roll. Not everyone can do this.

I have stayed on my low carb plan on my birthday before. I had a lovely low carb cheesecake. I would have cocktails if you like, there are plenty of lowcarb choices.

As others have mentioned, I sometimes give myself permission to eat off-plan on special occasions. When the moment arrives, 99% of the time, I don't indulge.

I did order dessert on my last birthday, but I was done after two bites. I'm someone for whom one piece of cake was never enough, so this is a dramatic (and welcome) difference for me.

I go off plan on certain holidays, birthday etc.

I don't call it 'off plan', I am now thinking of it as a 'higher carb day' that I choose to let happen

I can not and will not make this an absolute in my life. food will come and go. choices have to be made. 90% of the time lc all the way, 10% is reserved for 'what if I want a piece of ....'

I love long island iced teas. haven't had one in many years. YUM. sounds like a nice b-day going to happen

I stay on plan for my birthday and every other day of the year. I just LOVE the way I eat so to eat off plan is not a treat for me. I have made cheesecake (which is my most favorite dessert) but not always. Sometimes it is a really special protein like lobster or steak.

Ultimately, it is not about the food, as an opportunity to spend extra time with loved ones. Which ever way a person chooses to celebrate, provided they can jump back on plan, and not feel really ill - I would simply say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Enjoy!

I always have a piece of cake for my birthday so I choose to still have a piece. I don't go off plan for valentines, or thanksgiving, I do choose to have a small off plan sampling of items at christmas (my grandmother makes amazing christmas candy and I have to have one of my 4 fav things she makes... i use to have MANY of the 4 fav things she makes.) This year I will say on plan on my actual birthday and celebrate it a week late. I've joined a weight loss challenge at work that is 12 weeks and will end the week after my birthday. We had our first weight in last monday to being and will have our first weight in tomorrow (since today is a holiday and we are off work) to see who has lost weight. I've already told hubby we will be celebrating my birthday a week late as far as dinner and cake goes LOL and he said that was fine. The winner of the competition gets money so if i'm good and try really hard maybe I can go buy myself new clothes if I win! if I don't win money, I still WIN because I have a pair of jeans i'm trying to get into and I know if I stick to plan I will get in them by the end of the challenge!

Now, lets have a drink or two. Long Island Ice Teas only have two items with carbs in them; the sweet and sour, and the coke. You can buy sugar free sweet and sour mix and use diet coke.

Yes because this is a lifetime WOE...not a diet. My splurge was a homemade low carb cheesecake. I don't get it often because even though it's low carb, it's still very high calorie...and while one piece is low carb, several is not.

My birthday dinner was filet mignon, grilled asparagus and the cheesecake. Why would I want to 'cheat' and go off plan?

Yes Jenny your avatar is hysterical....even told my daughter on the phone last night about it. Sounds like u have my sense of humor too lol.
I was born in 74 so yep turning the big 40.....ugh!!!
