Trader Joe's Find

I stopped in for my typical Trader Joe's shopping trip:
- coconut oil (check)
-aged cheddar (check)
- kale and brussels sprouts (check)
- avocados (check)
- Kerrygold (check)
- Queen olives (they have the best and that's really the main reason for this trip) (check)
- and then I see it....
-Pork Belly!!!!

Now, I have been looking for pork belly pretty much everywhere and can't find it anywhere. They have "fully cooked" pork belly with pork belly, water and sea salt listed as the ingredients. It appears to be the braised or whatever they do pre-frying. I cannot wait to fry that baby up and see how it tastes!

Oh-I am going to Trader Joe's this Sunday. It's a hike for me-almost 2 hours one way-but, I need a good fix!! Thanks for your list OP-I will try out some of those things!

I was there over the weekend and bought 2!

Prepared one yesterday and NOMMED IT DOWN. I sliced mine and browned. It was like bacon on STEROIDS.

That sounds down right dangerous for us pig lovers! My Trader Joes isn't open yet. But I will definitely put that on my list!

Good to know!! Never tried it...but will soon!!

They also have the BEST sf chocolate there...if you are interested. By the checkout, simply lite brand, the milk chocolate is ridiculously good. But, thankfully, the SA in it help me limit my portions ;).

Thanks for the heads up. I never really look in that particular section (near the cooked meatloaf and lamb and so on), but I went and grabbed one today.

Here's what it looks like.

Thanks for the picture.....I had no idea. Next trip I'll have to see if my TJ' carries this. I've learned that items vary by store, so who knows if mine with have it!

That made my mouth water, Ntombi. Wish we had a T/J's. You all make me jealous. :)

Jumping in the car now!

If you want this and do not have a TJ`s in your area. Ask a local butcher shop. They should be able to get some for you. It is easy to cook. Just slice it and fry like bacon or put it in the oven.

Ntombi 01-20-2014 12:09 PM

I buy it raw sometimes yes, but having some of the work done ahead of time works for me!

tinamanni 01-20-2014 12:27 PM

How is it? I haven't gotten to mine yet

How long in the oven please? Thanks

Jaded62 01-20-2014 05:38 PM

Hi Nancy,
I slice it about 1/8 inch thick and bake it like I do thick sliced bacon. I set my oven on 400 and cook it for 12 to 15 minutes on one side, then turn it and cook maybe 7 or 8 minutes more. It all depends how crisp you would like it.

Me neither. I got a bad stomach bug, so no pork belly for a while.
