The cupboard graveyard of low carb products

I am sure many of us have this. Products that we don't like, or that did not work out, but were so expensive that we have not tossed them. Mine includes:

Carbquick - a whole box, I completely hated it
Carbalose flour - ditto.
Russell Stover's chocolates - love them, but they stall me
Atkins Bars - lot of these, but ditto.
Sugar free maple syrup - Malitol, stalls me

I have not yet gotten motivated to toss a 12.00 box of Carbquick - but I am working on it!

Shoot, send that carbquik my way! I just bought a new box last week. HaleysNana's buttermilk biscuits are worth the price alone! Other than that, my list includes:

Smaps- maple soy cereal bought because I was desperate for some crunch. EWWWWW NASTY!!!!! I have REALLY REALLY lost my taste for all things soy since I started my LC eating.
Walden Farms pancake syrup- Nowhere near as good as Log Cabin. Gloopy weird texture as well.
DaVinci syrups- people go wild for these, but I don't think they taste good at all.
SF Russell Stover's- if you insist on using THAT MUCH sugar alcohol, can they at least taste sweet? What's the deal? Also gave me terrible G.I. distress. Never buying these again.
Andre's Carbo save cookies- I had these in my cart for days, maybe even weeks before I bit the bullet and bought a box. BIG mistake. They are crunchy, but also greasy and LOADED with Isomalt. And they come out to 21 cents per TINY little cookie.

The carbquik works but to avoid the strange flavor you have to use it in small quantities mixed with other flours such as almond flour and coconut flour.

Sitting on my shelf: Shirataki noodles. I keep buying them and I even occasionally cook them up, but usually I end up throwing them away. I just can't get enthusiastic about them. Meh.

I know this doesn't make sense, but having the low-carb goodies - even that I don't eat - helps keep me on-plan. I have a brownie mix that I've never made, but having it keeps me from making "real" brownies. I have other things like that.

Been there, done that! I use to have a whole pantry full of carb substitutes. I finally asked myself what I was doing... Threw it all out. Ouch! But I felt better about not having all that stuff mocking me!

Susan....the white cheddar ones are the only ones that I think taste ridiculously terrible. The others are pretty delicious. I, too, have the white cheddar ones in the fridge, w/ only two wedges gone....

I have a cupboard like that too. Walden farm 'jam' - blech. I am keeping it for some unknown reason. Same with a bottle of Malitol. I don't know why I ever bought it and I will never use it but it sits in my cupboard.

I also have about 6 jars of coconut butter which I love but rarely use. I think it will last for a long time but I just can't see using it all up.

Sometimes it takes more than one try.
Flaxseed meal, tried making muffins years ago, yuk. This was 1st time LC diet.
Still eating real bread etc. Recently bought a new bag of flax meal, made the same recipe and they were ok. good enough to try again. also add a bit to LC cereal.
Bought artificial honey, sampled once ,yuk, and put in back of cupboard. Used it Xmas in cookies, was great, one of the best LC food Ive ever had.

Flavored syrups, some are wonderful some I dump.

I just tried Quest bars for the first time. YUCK!!! Thank God I didn't buy a whole box from netrition. They are EXTREMELY chewy, but not in a good way. In a gummy, chewing gum sort of way. And the flavor....you call THAT chocolate? It had a weird twang to it.

Walden farms anything got dumped when we got a new fridge a year or so ago.. That stuff was sitting at the back of it rotting.. Actually, it probably wasn't since it was ALL chemicals.

My vote for Torani and the other brand (forgot it) is yum!!

I also use a lot of Shirataki noodles.. Especially Miracle Rice. It helps to add bulk on Intermittent Fasting fasting days..

I agree. I bought 6 or 7 of them, different flavors, and have yet to like one. They just taste like chewy play dough to me.

I bought some almond flour crackers from Julian Bakery recently. I was really excited about them until I tasted them. Yuck! Tasted like cardboard. Maybe I will try to pulse them up in the food processor and season it to make a crust for chicken.

Xantham gum powder *shudder*. Slimy and leaves food tasteless. I had such a negative reaction to it that I couldn't sleep (it really skeeved me out) the one and only time I tried to use it. I kept waking all night long thinking about how horrible it was.

I'm not sure why I haven't thrown it out.

I'm more into intermittent fasting now than LC (JUDDD) but I do have some stuff left over from my LC days. Atkins bars, some Carbquik which I actually like but now that I'm not strict LC anymore its not worth the calories.
I actually like some of the bars, and some of the Walden Farms dressings. But, again, bars not worth the calories. The dressings are nice though for the low calorie days of fasting.
Still not throwing it all out yet...

I don't even bother trying them anymore. I've just had so many that were bad, it's not worth the money to try for me now. When I am lowcarbing I stick to mostly unprocessed foods. I do indulge in diet soda pop....I will have artificial sweeteners or splenda in certain things like cheesecake or almond bark that I make at home

I'll take your xanthan gum! At $12 per 1/3 pound, and it lasts forever. I don't use it as a gravy or thicker like cornstarch, but as a slight thickener, like 1/4 teaspoon per 6 cup pot of soup.

I have things I bought and haven't used yet, like polydextrose for making sweets, and a lot of low car bread mixes cause I just don't care for bread much anymore, and I'm lousy at making regular bread anyway.

I gave away a box of banana atkins bars years ago and won't buy any of them anymore. I'll have one if it's free, but it's too dense and chalky/chewy for me.

I use walden farms dressings during HCG, but the chocolate syrup was ack to me. and I'm afraid to try the "apple butter" spread.

I think Quest Bars are the best (especially since they don't have maltitol); love Carbquik for low carb pancakes and Xantham for smoothies!

Anything Walden Farms, I will never buy again!

I hate most Walden Farms products but I found I can tolerate the strawberry jelly on a GG's Scandinavian crispbread and the caramel sauce is OK mixed with cream cheese on a crispbread. I like the pancake syrup (OK, I tolerate the pancake syrup) and I can just barely stand the ranch and the Asian sesame dressings on a salad. All the rest of them are disgusting. Especially the peanut butter and the chocolate syrup. Ugh!

Exactly! You hit the nail on the head. The first bite you take is like "umm...is this even food?" I was expecting the texture of a fiber one bar, you know, cardboardy, but still chocolatey and sweet....LOL. It couldn't have been further from that. The chocolate has a very off putting flavor...is it chicory? Whatever it is, I HATE it. SOOOOOO infinitely glad I didn't spend 33.95 for a whole box from Netrition!!

I agree about Walden Farms stuff. I just bought 2 bottles of salad dressing and they have a weird after taste that I just dont like.

I have flax meal which I think tastes nasty in a one minute muffin.

I have xanthum gum that I dont know what to do with.
Coconut flour that makes everything taste too coconutty.
Chia seeds that I dont know what to do with for low carb.
Basically a whole bunch of stuff I dont know how to use.

I actually like some of the Walden Farms products, but they are hit and miss for me, and the consistency seems to vary within the same product.
That said, some of the Dixie Diner's products I love, but I can't seem to make the angel food puffs correctly - they're more like bread than angel food. So, I have that, some of their pie crust mix, their fudge mix, and their cornbread mix all sort of....sitting.
