Half and Half or Original Almond milk for lattes?

I have an amazing locally owned coffee shop close by. They sometimes carry unsweetened almond milk, but just so happen to have original almond milk right now (which is sweetened). Should I get half-and-half or the original sweetened almond milk in my latte?

The sweetened almond milk has 8 grams of carbs per cup, 7 of those being sugar.

The half and half has approximately 10 grams of carbs per cup, but less than 1 of those is sugar.

This isn't something I'll be doing often, but I would like to be prepared so when I do get one I'll get the right one!

Neither, for my preferences. I make my 'lattes' with americano or drip, adding two tbsp heavy whipping cream. It's creamier and tastier than a latte with far less carbs. In general the milk based espresso drinks are a terrible habit to maintain for diet purposes - too much milk, not enough coffee. So I always ask if they have heavy cream under the counter, for making their whipped cream, and have them add that.

Barring that unsweetened almond milk would be my next choice, followed by half n half. But neither are great choices for taste/richness for the carbs, in my book. I would never choose sweetened almond milk - that's begging for cravings!

I wish I knew where you people found heavy whipping cream with 0 carbs. I've been to every store in the area and checked every brand and they either say <1 or 0 and the online food calculators vary as well with some saying <1 or 0. So I always count as 1 since <1 can mean .9 and that's for 1 Tbs. My half and half, of any brand, is 1 carb per *two* Tbs which means that really it's also <1 for 1 Tbs, making it similar to the HWC.

On the 'which would you get'? I'd always choose half and half over anything with sugar because it's not just the quantity of carbs, but the type of carbs that make a difference.

I think this is what I was struggling with. The carb count is lower with original sweetened almond milk, but I know it's full of sugar.

I was thinking y'all would say go with the half and half if all else failed, but I was just checking.

I am looking forward to trying an Americano- even if it ends up that I get a couple tablespoons of half and half instead of the heavy cream I think it will still be better than a full on latte with a cup (or more) of the h&h. I used to work at Starbucks but honestly forgot about the Americano (that was a lifetime ago when the entire middle Tennessee area only had one, and it was inside the Barnes and Noble!)

Hwc still has 6 carbs per cup if I am not mistaken...but you have to use less of it to get the creamy affect.

I vote for real food, the half-n-half. I do use unsweetened almond milk at times. But, I still have not figured out how they milk the almond. If I understand this right the sugars trigger the ultra insulin response which is what makes your body add fat.

The less processed a milk product is the higher the fat and the lower the sugar is my understanding...that is why hwc is so high infat and lower in carbs and sugar than milk or half and half, which is cream and milk mixed.
I don't think the OP will get the rich creamy results in her coffee using almond milk vs half and half or cream.

I do the americano and have them steam my cream or half and half with the water that goes inthe americano.

I know not to subtract sugar.

The entire carbohydrate count (not net) for one cup of original almond milk is 8 grams per cup. Out of those 8 grams 7 of them are sugar.

So, 8 carbs vs. 10 (again, not net, but entire counts), looks as though the almond milk does in fact have less carbohydrates than the half and half, but more sugar.

I think your confusing terms - almond milk has more *added* sugar! but. Half n half has more sugar overall - it just happens to be the type naturally occurring in dairy (lactose and other sugars like that). Added sugar versus naturally occurring can be confusing, better to avoid it in all its forms as much as you can.

I like Blue Diamond unsweetened almond-coconut milk. It has 45 calories and one carb. You can get it in the milk section.

No, here's the info I pulled:

Half and Half, 1 cup- 10.4 total grams of carbs, 0.4 grams of sugar, 0 grams of fiber.

Silk Original Almond, 1 cup- 8 total grams of carbs, 7 grams of sugar, less than 1 gram of fiber.

Perhaps I need to reevaluate everything I thought I knew about labels! If the sugar is natural wouldn't it be listed or do they leave this info out?

Or perhaps I got incorrect info on the half and half to begin with (it was a simple google search by the way from a website aligned with a popular magazine)?

The carbs in the half-and-half is the sugar, it's just the naturally occurring sugar in lactose. The almond milk on the other hand has 7 grams of added sugar, apart from any naturally occuring sugar (1 gram).

Well, who is using entire cup? I wouldn't care for the almond milk because I don't like my coffee to look 'watery' with the creamer.
