Question: No appetite - eat or not?

Today is the start of my Day 6 on DANDR. I have lost 8 lbs so far. Which is probably mostly water weight...but my appetite is just not there now...Do I force myself to eat to get in my carbs? What does everyone else do?

First, the fewer carbs the better, so you never need to push yourself to eat carbs. There are no "essential carbs", but fat and protein are essential.

Secondly, consider this. As long as you are eating SAD food, you're eating junk that purposely stimulates the appetite in order to get you to buy more. Your tastebuds are blunted by excess sugar, salt, and inflammatory polyunsaturated oils.

Already, those artificial triggers are gone, and what you're learning about your body is that you are NOT physiologically hungry all the time. There was so much "noise" on the SAD diet that you couldn't hear and appreciate your body's signals. Now you can. And if it's telling you that you're not hungry, don't force the issue.

Hunger feels very different on a low carb diet. Eat when you are hungry, stop before you are uncomfortably full, make every bite quality low carb food, and the weight will drop off.

Well put! I second this. Listen to your body... Maybe it's just busy munching away on your 'stores'. Congratulations on the loss.. Really, we need to quit saying, "I know it's probably only water'. Until they make a scale that can tell us, 'oh honey you have ten pounds of water weight' it all counts!!

Don't force carbs!

Eat protein when you feel like it and enjoy the perk of ketosis!

Thanks guys....I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't harming myself. So, what exactly is a SAD diet? Never heard that term before. I seriously feel like I'm going to be down in weight again tomorrow. I don't know how to explain it, except it feels that way. Making dinner now. And thanks on correcting me on calling my 8 lbs water weight...I can literally feel the difference in my clothes already. I went to Texas recently to visit my Father in law and the rest of my husbands family and I came back 7 lbs heavier. So, I have lost those 7 lbs plus 1. So....to continue down the next ten lbs would be awesome for me because I was stuck at 170 eating the way I wanted and all...I'm pretty excited for this WOL....

DANDR stands for Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution.

Hmm...alot has changed since I last did this like 10 years ago. Alot of people knew what DANDR stood for. Most people actually...but since I've come back...lots of people asks me what it stands for.

Thanks Tori. I should have known. You are right - a few years ago I would have known, but it just did not click with me now. I have the book, so good start AGAIN. I really need to use my brain this time - keep junk out of the house and think before I eat, weather eating at home or eating out. And COMING here.

I love not being hungry all the time its so different for me considering I eat constantly. Well not now. Dont force yourself to eat your body will burn its own fat for energy, which means smaller # on the scale. Great job!

I would certainly never force carbs and, unless you are hypo/hyperglycemic (and there is a reason for these people to eat regular meals, hungry or not) I wouldn't worry about eating when you aren't hungry. As long as when you do get hungry, it's not an out of control hunger that leads you to eat more than you should.

No, human beings have no dietary requirement for carbohydrates.

I would say play it by ear. If you stop losing weight not eating then find little low carb snacks to fit in.
