ok, so i came back as the Queen of No Excuses .....

But the universe decided to test me.

I got t-boned by a hit and run last Tuesday, trapped in my car for 25 minutes after arrival of EMS, and am still in the hospital.

I had JUST started a weight training program, and was down 12 pounds and one size The pants they cut off from me were 16W very nice professional black pants.

I have a broken. Back (2 places), broken pelvis, broken ribs, bruised lung, and massive deep soft tissue brusing.

So.......I am going to return to it upon discharge but am giving myself a pass until then.

Lifting up prayers for you right now!! Wow, you just never know what a day will hold do ya?? I thing recovery and not food choices should definitely be top priority but don't let that keep you from making the best choices you can. You will feel so much better while you are healing that you are also taking care of yourself nutrionally. I'm not saying I wouldn't have a pity meal or two myself, but don't let some fool rob you of all that you have accomplished so far!!

Wow! I'll be hoping and praying for a quick recovery. Your kids must be totally freaked out! Hope you have some family and/or friends near by to support you through this. I wouldn't throw your whole meal plan out the window, but do the best you can.

No excuses! Okay, this probably qualifies if anything would! Just get well!

For what it's worth when I was stuck in the hospital it was really, really easy to order low carb off the room menu. Sometimes when everything else is spinning out of control, keeping that one variable we CAN manage is extremely helpful.

Heal well and feel better soon! I'm sure the accident was terrifying

Wow, I hope you're feeling better soon!

I must say, I found the same thing as Taryl; it was pretty easy to eat LC when I was in the hospital. I just ordered off the menu. I also think it helped me heal faster to eat healthy.

(((HUGS)))))

I am so sorry that this has happened to you. If at all possible, eating LC will help you to heal better, IMHO. Also, any extra weight that you can get off will help in your recovery process. I would be making my family sneak it my food.

OMG, thank goodness you're alive to tell about it. I hope you heal quickly.

Are there people who can bring you real food? Ask them for REAL broth, not that MSG laden bouillon hospitals serve. If there's a patient fridge and microwave, the best way to package broth is to freeze it into ice cubes. Then you can ask a nurse or visitor to heat up a few cubes for you every time you think of it. The gelatin and amino acids in real broth will help you heal, and it's very soothing.

Even if you need to go off plan for a few meals stick around here as a way of motivating yourself ! Even when I needed to eat differently I still considered myself a LC eater and stuck around! Made coming back to plan seamless transition.

When my mama was in the hospital this last year for multiple reasons, but the main one being amputation due to a blood clot in her leg, the nutritionalist (who I didn't trust much because she wanted my mom doing "heart healthy" diet because of previous congestive heart failure) has some really tense discussions about protein and it's healing benefits to wounds or injury.

I finally convinced her health care team to increase her protein intake with glucernas and extra protein at each meal. Their idea in the medical industry for heart healthy is very high carb for some reason and like... Empty carbs even. Pasta, rice, cereals. I pitched a fit my mother would have approved of til I got her nutrition plan the way I knew it needed to be for healing not just the wound, the bed/pressure sore, controlled her diabetes and was ok for her heart. Plus foods I know she would like, as she was a pretty picky eater.

Talk to your team and convince them with information about the healing power of high protein high good fats and less empty carbs, it really does make a difference.

Still wishing you a full and speedy recovery!!

Joanne, how are you doing? When do you get to come home? Do you have help or are they going to get you an in home care provider? I hope you are doing well!

Susan, good for you! Sometimes I think they forget who is paying the bills!! Maria had a post on her Dad after he had a minor heart attack. Her brother took a picture of his breakfast, all carbs and sugar! And that's healthy?! Brother...
