Reasonable time frame to loose 60 pounds....

My first goal is to loose 60 pounds and I wanted to set a goal date...I was thinking 6 months but would appreciate to know other low carber's experiences...

You can't predict how fast or how slow you will lose. Even if you have lost weight in the past your body may act differently this time. You can only control how you behave, and what you eat. Since you have to eat this way for life, you'll get there when you get there. That said, I think 6 months would be very ambitious to lose 60 lbs. It can be done, and I lost 10 lbs. a month for the first few months, but I think a year would be a much more reasonable time frame. Then if you meet it ahead of time, great. If your losses are slower, you won't be so discouraged as to give up.

ITA with all that Mistizoom said. I see so many people say that they are gonna lose ten pounds this month and I cannot wrap my head around how they know that! All I can do is stay on plan. Sometimes that leads to fairly predictable seeming weight loss, like 2 pounds a week for some weeks, but then other times it can be pretty erratic. You can only control your behavior, not how your body reacts to it.

I lost 50 pounds between january 7th and the end of july, so that's seven months, but the scale has not been moving since then so I'm up to 50 pounds in nine months.

I've lost 47 pounds in a little over 5 months. I would be freaking out if I had it in my mind that I had to lose 13 more in less than a month to meet my 'goal'. It's all a mind game with me though so it may not would bother you if you didn't make it....then again, you very well could do it. It has happened plenty of times before.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts....I never really set a time frame goal before and I don't want to set myself up to be stressed about it...good point Mistizoom that ill be eating this way for the rest of my life....not a race.....thanks again guys....

I have been on many diets ( like you I'm sure) and one thing I've learned this time is that, "THIS TIME I AM NOT ON A DIET, I AM CHANGING MY LIFE". so I have no time limit to loose the weight, i have the rest of my life! it's a marathon not a sprint.

Don't set yourself up for failure. Your body is going to do what it wants to do on it's own time. It took me about a year to lose that much.

I agree with the others. Your body will do what it's going to do in whatever time frame it chooses. I was lucky and lost very consistently with the plan I follow, and I had hoped beyond hope to lose 100 pounds in a year. I lost 97 pounds at the one year mark. I'm just OCD enough where that would have been devastating to me if I had really set a firm time goal. Since it was just an "I hope" goal, it was fine.

The best advise, stay on a healthy plan and your body will tell you how and when it wants to shed the lbs. Don't rush it because if you loose too fast you also will gain it too fast. Our bodies have gotten used to the yo yo dieting and the last laugh is on it. Find a way of eating that will be lifelong for you not just until you have lost the weight. When you reach a point that you do not have any cravings and if you see a food that you once loved and can now look and leave it, that is the time you know that you will never gain wait again.
I celebrate every loss whether it took a day, a week or month and if here is a gain, which sometimes there is a small one, I do not go off plan or stress over it.
The key is to stay focused on the end prize and never give up.

Setting a goal for something I don't have control over has a discouraging effect when I don't meet it. Intellectually, logically I understood I had to make a permanent life change, but it took a lot more time, years to really believe it. To believe it emotionally. Still, it's all a process of learning about ourselves and what works.

I lost quickly the first couple of months, but over 6 months it averaged out to about 4-5 lbs a month. Then I had a stall for a year and a half. When I dropped dairy I lost the rest.

I also have to track, daily. Otherwise my weight creeps up. We are all different though. Keep us posted on your progress!

I have only managed to lose 15-20 pounds in a year, starting in my 40s. This means most days I see *nothing* when I get on the scale. However, I have kept it off, so do not be discouraged. It is best to concentrate just sticking to plan.

All low carb. I assume she is overly sensitive to carbs. She was very strict. Eggs were a daily staple. She turned 31 today. She started last September and by May she was down 104 lbs.

My best advice is to stick with it and forget you're doing it. Oh my gosh, I know that's easier said than done!! But focusing on it too much as you're doing it can have a watching-paint-dry effect ... like waiting for a hot guy to call. Just DOING what you need to do is enough. So stay focused on your life, responsibilities, loved ones, hobbies, errands, etc., and as it comes it will be that much sweeter. You're in this for the long haul!

It's taken me almost three months to lose thirteen pounds. My metabolism is completely shot from yo-yo dieting for years, so it's probably going to be a long journey for me; and I have about 80 more pounds to lose. I completely agree with fun_w_son. If you look at it as a race, it's so much more frustrating and you're not likely to succeed. I have to remind myself of that every day. This is a permanent change, not a diet. Diets don't work for long. This will.

Can you post what you are eating? I found when this happened to me, I was simply over eating, even if it was all low carb, it was to much food.

Who needs 8 pieces of bacon? Me! But, if I wanted to lose, it was too much food.

I just don't have that built in "radar" I'm full. Never have. I have to really stuff myself. When I measured everything, no eyeballing anything. I lost faster. DID I HATE IT? YES! Was it necessary, yes! Was it worth it? YES

My experience has been that the younger a person is, and the least amount of actual dieting that person has done, the faster it goes. I could lose 12 lbs a month in my teens, and I lost 40 lbs over one summer. Then on WW I lost 30 lbs in 6 weeks in my 30's. Now that I am approaching 60 I am happy when I lose a pound in a week. My metabolism has tanked over the years.

I think it is very possible to lose 60 pounds in 6 months, but it requires real dedication and you will have to start exercising as you get lower down to see continued quick weight loss and possibly reducing your amount of calories once you lose some of the excess weight.

I set mini goals along the way. That worked for me. Having said that, I have lost 53 lbs in just under 10 months. Slow n steady. I don't necessarily ave an end goal. I'm trusting my body to make that decision.
