What do you dip in your fried egg now?

Since I cannot scoop all the runny yolk up with toast, I rarely eat a fried egg anymore. What's your substitute fave, and it doesn't have to be a bread substitute...looking for delicious and creative :)

cleochatra 09-14-2013 09:41 AM

Bacon. Seriously. Thick cut, peppered bacon with just the right amount of chew. That or a wonderful link of sausage. They sop up that eggy goodness so right, you'd (almost) slap your pastor for another bite.

MtherGoos 09-14-2013 09:55 AM

Yup, me too. Bacon! :yummy:

Rainypep 09-14-2013 09:56 AM

I did think of bacon and sausage, just hadn't done it. Will put thick pepper bacon on shopping list ASAP! Thanks Cleo.

DD80 09-14-2013 10:00 AM

I've sautéed veggies in butter and lay the egg on top. Ive added sausage to that too. YUM. Maybe a one minute muffin would work for people who like those?

dmburk 09-14-2013 10:08 AM

I put my egg on top of a grilled hamburger. Steak and eggs! All that yummy yellow goodness on beef. :yummy:

MtherGoos 09-14-2013 10:23 AM

Or Avocado! I LOVE Avocado with anything!!

LCWizard 09-14-2013 10:27 AM

Bacon and fried eggs are a match made in heaven! I prefer my fried eggs not to have a runny yolk though. oh, and tomatoes go really well with fried eggs.

Stacy O 09-14-2013 01:22 PM

I pan-fry a nice pile of chopped up onion, zucchini and canadian bacon and then break the yolk of 2 eggs over medium over it....so yummy!!!

2BoysMom 09-14-2013 02:44 PM

A sausage patty works well for sweeping up the runny yolk. Mmmmmm, really, really well. Dang - now I want sausage and eggs.

DiamondDeb 09-14-2013 03:33 PM

It wasn't easy but I broke my dipping habit. lol...

Romy 09-14-2013 04:04 PM

I break the yolk, spread it around over the white and put cheese on top and cook until the yolk is done and the cheese melted.

Lisa M 09-14-2013 04:55 PM

The lack of toast was a big bother early on low carbing for me, too. Now it's bacon! Like everyone else said, perfect for dipping. And if I can't get all the yolk up with the fork, I use a spoon. Lol. Or if no one is around, my finger.

10Poppies 09-14-2013 06:31 PM

Bacon or fried ham :yummy:

anglgrl 09-15-2013 08:39 AM

I'm a weirdo - I eat the white and leave the yolk for last (it's my fav part) and I try to leave the yolk whole and unbroken so I can break it in my mouth. I know, I'm completely insane
If I accidentally break the yolk I just lick the plate (I eat alone - I'm not scaring anyone).

nolcjunk 09-15-2013 08:42 AM

Nothing, I use a spoon. I've never dipped anything into the yolk even when I was eating bread.

Kaillean 09-15-2013 09:29 AM

Over-easy makes me miss toast, so I scramble my eggs in the bacon fat instead. Yummy.

Stacy O 09-15-2013 10:22 AM

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I like to eat it over a bed of fresh spinach and chopped up bacon as well...so kind of like a salad and the yolk is the dressing.

I love a fried egg on top of either sauteed spinach or cabbage sauteed with a little bit of bacon. The yolk drips out and gets caught in the veggies and is DELICIOUS!!

JennyBell 09-15-2013 02:03 PM

Leftover steak (diced into small pieces) with BBQ seasoning and sauteed in butter. YUM!

ValidRouge 09-15-2013 02:11 PM

I grew up in the south and we always ate our eggs "over easy" with grits. We'd cut up the fried egg into the grits and the yolk would mix with the grits. It's my favorite breakfast ever.

When I went low carb years ago, I was using cauliflower to make mashed fauxtatoes and fauxtato salad and all sorts of substitutes and decided to try it as a substitute for grits. It is DELICIOUS to me. No wasting the yolk, stir that into the mashed cauli with some butter and salt and pepper. Mmmm mmm good!

CurlsNCuffs 09-15-2013 02:12 PM

Fry mine hard, no dipping! :)

Rainypep 09-15-2013 10:14 PM

Thanks everyone for the ideas, Ill have to be adventurous!

heidihoopi 09-15-2013 10:45 PM

Yumm, I love the egg over the sauteed cabbage with onions and bacon bits idea! Thanks.

Stacy O 09-16-2013 02:45 PM

I'm making zucchini fritters to go with dinner tonight. If there are any leftover, you know what I am having for breakfast tomorrow! :)

I think low carb is all about breaking old habits and creating new ones...and this was one of the hardest for me. I'm not a fan of scrambled eggs and never cared for my over medium without toast. My husband laughs at me because I make a perfect over medium egg...and then mash it up. :D

I'll usually wipe up the plate with a piece of sausage or the bacon to make sure I get all that yummy goodness.
