Calorie question

Hi all. I'm new here and have a question about all the delicious recipes I'm seeing and how they all seem so high in calories. Whether its ribs, or steak with butter, or chicken wings coated in parmesan cheese, they are all so high in calories. Is it possible to eat all these high calorie dishes and still lose weight? As long as it's on the acceptable induction list and I'm under 20 g carbs for the day then do I need to worry about it?

It is possible and no I wouldn't worry about calories yet. As you get closer to goal, if you find that you aren't losing any more, than you may need to adjust your calories, but these meals are so satisfying and so filling that as you progress, you will probably find yourself just naturally eating less. Also, being in a state of ketosis is a great appetite suppressant for many people.

They do matter but they matter most when you get closer to your goal weight. Don't let that idea discourage you from getting on board- start by watching your carbs and see how you do. You can make adjustments as you need to.

I'm not counting calories yet, I know when I do get closer and have less to lose that I will need to, but getting a handle on my woe is my 1st priority and getting the carb monster out of my world.

Some people never need to count calories, and some people always need to. It's a very indivual thing.

In all the times I've eaten very low carb, I've never needed to count calories. I may need to in the future, but it's not a certainty.

That's not to say that calories don't count at all. They do to a certain extent, and eating until stuffed, or even full, isn't what's recommended. You're supposed to eat until satisfied. Now, some people don't have a functioning "satisfied," or even "full" trigger, and they would need to at least watch portion sizes, if not outright count calories.

See? Indivual. You'll figure out what works best for you.

If you're just starting on low carb, I wouldn't worry about calories. Get used to doing without the carbs first. Then if you aren't losing and you're sure your carbs are low, you can look at your calories.

Some of us had to worry about calories even when we had 100 pounds or more to lose. Some don't. It's unique to the individual.

I'm counting calories because I'm post menopausal and don't lose as readily as I once did. That said, with this woe, I rarely get to my goal of 1500 per day.

At your current weight you don't need to count calories most likely. If you just lower your carbs and stick with protein/fat, your body will start burning off its excess fat stores fairly easily and you will start losing weight. When you get closer to goal and your stored body fat is much less, you may have to start counting calories. It also helps when you switch to maintenance so that you can find a diet that stops you from overeating and packing on the weight again.
