pepperoni ?
I am having trouble finding any pepperoni that doesn't contain dextrose in the ingredients. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hormel contains "less than 2% of.." including dextrose.
Your best bet is to limit the servings :)


Ingredients: BHA, BHT with Citric Acid Added to Help Protect Flavor Ingredients: Pork, Beef, Salt, Contains 2% or less of Water, Dextrose, Spices, Lactic Acid Starter Culture, Oleoresin of Paprika, Garlic Powder, Sodium Nitrite, BHA, BHT, Citric Acid.

Most cold cuts will have some dextrose in it, if you're looking to make pizza if you a have a real italian store around, they make sausages without sugar or flour. (filler)

I do eat the hormel but I do limit the amount within my carb limit!!

And have you weighed out an ounce, which I believe is a serving size listed on the package? That's a lot of pepperoni. There's just over half a gram of dextrose in the ounce of pepperoni, so that's less than 1 carb from the dextrose per oz of pepperoni.

I eat it.

I just buy the Hormel pepperoni and don't pay any attention to the ingredients. I've never had an issue with the added stuff; the protein-fatty goodness overrides all else.

If you can find it in your area Applegate Farms makes some without all the other stuff..

I eat the Hormel as well. I typically eat about a third of a serving, because a serving is a LOT.

Isn't it annoying? I have not found the low levels of dextrose, corn syrup, etc, to be problematic,as long as you watch the carb count. They can be 0 (which really means less than .5) or as high as 3 or 4 carbs. So be careful. Try to opt for the specialty stuff when you can afford it and find it.

It really makes me mad that they add these things to EVERYTHING. I went to pick up some bouillon to help get me through my re-induction. Did not notice until I got home that the first ingredient was corn syrup solids, followed by MSG and a bunch of other crap.

So I roasted a medication-free chicken instead and made my own. It was :yummy:
