Chicago Favorite!!!!!
I have been craving Italian beef sandwiches since my re-start. Well, I made some fresh oopsie rolls and I now have my Italian beef sandwiches. :jumpjoy::jumpjoy:

For those of you who are not familiar, Italian beef is thinly shaved beef with an au jus and placed inside an Italian roll and dipped or if you prefer it dry but dipped is nice w/ sweet and/or hot peppers. Awesome!

The oopsie doesn't disintegrate with the au jus??

That sounds soooo yummy!

Nope! I did not have to dip it because the fatty juice from the meat and peppers (giardniera) absorbed into the oopsie roll well. I get my meat from an Italian beef stand by the pound and the au jus comes with it along with a big chunk of fat floating in it. I gonna try a Chicago style hot dog later in the week.

Are we talking Al's Italian Beef?

If you add alil prottein powder to the oopsie batter it makes it able to hold up to just about anything...I add a lil flax as weel for texture.

No. I get mine from a Maxwell polish stand in Evergreen Park. They are the bomb! Quite similar to Al's though, the only difference is that Al's peppers are more of a relish as oppose to regular giardiniera. Try it out with the oopsie roll!

Rosebud, I'm a Chicagoan as well. Can you give specific location in Evergreen Park. Thx.

Rosebud 08-23-2013 03:31 PM

Sure. It is located west of 87th & Western Ave. Once you pass the exclusive Country Club (Obama is a member) going westbound on 87th, you will cross the railroad tracks and will pass a BP station which is 2 doors from the place, called JJ's which is a Maxwell Street polish/Italian beef stand. They also sell the polishes by the pound as well, very tasty with the oopsie rolls. Happy eating!

Thx. I know it well. Used to live two blocks away off California. And that was 12 years ago. Still easy to stop by on my way home. Thx.

Sounds like a plan! I will stop by there later today to stock up some more goodies.
