My son just left for college and I'm getting healthy!

I just moved my son into Western Carolina over the weekend and after a long pity party, I realized I need to get back to taking care of me. I miss him something terrible (my only child) and need to keep busy. I just turned 42 today and am overweight and no energy. I was worn out walking my son around the campus and was embarrassed to be huffing and puffing. Starting back on low carb and committing.

Wow. I am 42, but my son is still n diapers! He is only 16 months, lol.
Good luck taking care of yourself. He will be so proud of you when he comes home at thanksgiving.

Just think how great you are going to feel the next time you see him, once you are a few weeks down to low carb road.

The huffing and puffing is not fun at all. I know :) It is YOUR TIME now and take full advantage of the quiet and work on yourself. Very smart!!

I am 51 with an 8 year old. I have a while to college time but I know when she hits college I will be nearing retirement. Time for me to get in shape now also LOL

Good for you. I starting focusing a little more on myself last year after homeschooling for the last 12 years. 70lbs later I am wondering why I didn't do it sooner.

Welcome! I'm 42 and taking my youngest to college in 3 weeks (older is already away at school so we'll be empty-nesting). Just wanted you to know you are not alone! I'm already fighting the anticipatory emotional eating!

hi I am 45 just sent our son off to USC in SC and I think I just need a week or so of reflection of the past 18yrs of taking care of someone other than myself. my DH and I have worked ourselves to the bone to make sure he stayed on the right track. which he has thank goodness! so now to take time for us to get healthy. just feels surreal in the house and so quiet! looking to get back to walking which I love. good luck to you!

Good for you and welcome! I've found that often big life changes can spur you into weightloss...

Congrats on taking charge. :hugs:

I am 46 (just turned) and my oldest will be a Sophomore in HS. I really want to be skinny by the time he graduates so I can wear a cute dress.

I finally stumbled upon a way to take care of myself in addition to taking care of my family after years of despair and depression.

I am with you in that it is finally time to focus on myself and my health.
