Conversion formula

Is there a conversion formula or someway to find out how many carbs are in an item if only the calories are known? A lot of restaurants only list the calories of a food item and not the carbs. Thanks.

carbs have 4 calories. Sugar, which is a carb, has 4 calories per gram too.

fats have 9 calories per gram.

Protein has 4 calories

That being said....it does no good if they say 'Slop Burger has 600 calories..'. It has to be broken down into fat grams, protein grams, etc., or you won't be able to figure it out.

In many restaurants, while only the calorie count may be listed on the menu, the website has detailed nutrition information.

When I go out to eat, I make sure to check the website first to get an idea of what would be on plan.

For non-chain or smaller restaurants, like my Thai restaurant, I would look up the dish if they had no nutrition info on the website. For example, an authentic massaman curry would presumably have an "average " fat/carb count so you could get an idea.
