Atkins Advantage bars???

2 weeks on the diet and I have lost 15 pounds. Very exciting. I received a starter package in the mail from Atkins that has 2 Atkins advantage bars in it. It said they were acceptable to eat at any phase of the diet. I tried them and they were pretty good. Tasted very sweet after not having anything sweet for a couple of weeks. I thought these were going to be great. So I went to the store and bought a box. Using them during the day while I was at work for a meal replacement. Another week goes by and I weigh in finding I am up 2 pounds. WHAT !! I should have at least lost 2 pounds. So are the meal replacement bars the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? I also bough some shakes, but if this is the outcome I am very frustrated.

I will eat the Atkins bars, but only once a week a most, and have never noticed an issue with them. However, many people do notice stalls and even gains with them. I think it just depends - it's one of those Your Mileage May Vary type of items.

I find can drink the shakes while trying to lose, but not the bars.

I love the taste of the peanut butter bar! I really wish it worked for me!

Many people cannot eat the bars and continue to lose.

First, congratulations for your weight loss

In my first round with Atkins, I ate a lot of them and I did not lose a pound. If I were you, I would be careful and I would stick to the basics.

I haven't tried the drinks yet. I am almost afraid to. I can tell when I am in Ketosis, because I can litterally feel myself losing weight. You guys know what I mean. It takes a few days for me to get back into this, so I hate to mess it up again. It is a shame too, I was excited to have a sweet and filling treat every now and again. Or an easy meal when I am on the go and unable to cook, but its not worth the weight loss stall. Does anyone else consider this to be false advertisement on the Atkins products?

I drink an Atkins shake every morning for breakfast and I don't have an issue with stalling with those...but the bars are a different story..I wont eat them until I am well into maintainance...but that's just me.

I also drink an Atkins Advantage shake every morning for breakfast and they don't cause any problems. They are sweetened with sucralose and ace K. But the bars contain sugar alcohols, including malitol, which can cause problems for many people. I do eat the bars but maybe once or twice a month at most. I wouldn't eat them daily or on a more regular basis.

I have a box of the bars in the pantry for emergency use only. I don't know if they will stall me or not but they are nice to have on hand. I also have a few of the Atkins frozen meals in the freezer. I did do the shakes my first time around and they worked fine for me. If I think I'm going to die of starvation, or I'm at Mom's and she has cooked a carb feast, I will eat a bar or a meal to fool myself into thinking I got to eat what she cooked. By the way, the starvation thing only happens very very occasionally...for me, one of the best side effects of LC, other than losing, is no appetite. I usually don't care whether I eat or not.

Here's the story with the bars. The bars contain sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols cause a lot of people to stall. It can also give you stomach issues.

Thanks everyone. I will be putting the bars up until the next phase of my diet, (which will be a while). Its too bad, they really cured a sweet tooth. After not having sugar for so long, those bars were delicious. Guess it is too good to be true for me I will be trying the drinks though. I bought caramel cafe (i think its called) sounds yummy.

The atkins shakes are good. They don't cause the problems the bars do. They don't have sugar alcohols. I've had 1 a night the last 3 nights, and have continued to lose.

I drink the shakes a lot. They're no problem at all for me. The bars, however. No. I may as well eat "regular" snack bars. They stop me in my tracks.

I just did this too. It was going really well, and then I bought some Atkins Bars this week. Ate them for breakfast on the run for 2 days. and this morning - up 2 pounds. Are you KIDDING me?? I can do some sweetners just fine, but I guess not ones that are in Atkins bars! I have some Quest bars on the way, the original ones with no sugar alcohol. We will see, fingers crossed! I get to work disgustingly early in the morning, and a.m. breakfast cooking is just not going to happen.

I have an Atkins chocolate peanut butter bar every morning for breakfast, with coffee & HWC. It actually seems like I lose better since I started doing it. Could be a coincidence though.

I LOVE the vanilla shakes so I don't buy them often. I buy the bars but only have a few a month.

I have eaten the bars from day one, and have lost 66 pounds in five months. Love them!

Some people are more sensitive to them than others. The fewer I eat, the better, and I always buy ones I don't dislike, but not the ones I LOVE or I'd gain for sure... I almost always save them for emergencies only, too...

Ok, I've been thinking about the bars since I last posted on this board. I would not sit down with 2 or 3 of them at a time. I would limit myself to once or twice a week at most, and only in emergencies. This is why I do not buy them. I cannot limit myself.

Welcome to Atkins....as a business. Selling you a book and watching you buy your food at the grocery store does not result in much profit. But trying to convince you that you need bars, shakes, and bake mix etc. will bring in a lot more money.

Like others have said, it's (most likely) the sugar alcohols. But why are they in there in the first place? Couldn't they just use splenda? Or would that ruin the chewiness? Bottom line, I used to use them, but I stopped. They just aren't worth it.

The bars are notorious for stalling weight loss or causing weight gain - even myself who has been in maintenance for months will only eat one once a month - if that even - I prefer to make my own homemade peanut butter cups rather than eat a fake atkins one!!!

I have heard others mention quest bars, I am not sure what they are. Have you been eating them, and if so what was the outcome?

I have yet to try the shakes I bought because the ingredients say it contains 1 gram of sugar.

I can eat the bars but not on a daily basis...so I keep them for those times when I have a craving and there is no other option...if I eat them daily I will stall. I know because I did eat them daily for a week or so and guess what ...no loss.
