Giving up coffee.... anybody with me?

I figured that as long as I am breaking all these bad habits, I may as well break the one that I don't really know why I have it.... coffee.

I'm not a fan of hot coffee at all, but I drink it out of habit. I used to use it to get me started in the morning, but now that I sleep much better, I don't think I need coffee anymore, or the HWC that I wouldn't otherwise consume. ( I will still use HWC in other things, but this saves me 2 TBS a day )

OTOH, I do love iced coffee. If it was OK to drink 60 ounces a day, I probably would.

Anybody with me in giving up the bean?

I drink coffee sometimes, tea sometimes, nothing at all sometimes. I don't have a morning coffee (or anything) habit. I often go weeks without coffee, and then have it several days in a row. It's just something I enjoy sometimes, not something I'm hooked on. I also don't think it's unhealthy in moderation.

So, no, I won't be giving it up.

Sorry--but no way! Coffee with HWC is my one creamy treat I allow myself every day! It usually satisfies a sweet craving, and relaxes me.

Now, if you ask me to give up cottage cheese with you, I'm first in line!!

Over the years I've given up coffee many times. The most recent was about 6 months ago--it was an experiment to see if I would sleep any better (I didn't). After no coffee for about 3 months, I said the heck with it.

I LOVE my morning coffee ritual--it's comforting and satisfying. Not to mention it's my biggest hit of fat for the day (BPC) and without it I struggle to keep my fats high enough.

My rationale for going back on the bean is that I've given up a LOT of foods that I love, and since drinking coffee doesn't impact my blood sugar, ketosis, or sleep, it's OK for me to have something that I love and that is SO satisfying to me.

OTOH, I've never been a really big coffee drinker...about 2 cups a day, always in the early morning. I still stick to that. I do herbal teas in the afternoon.

No. I'm with Ntombi. It's not a ritual, it's not a problem, I have one when I want one..it's not a problem. I'm not going to give it up just for the sake of being able to say I gave it up.

But it's not a bad habit...so enjoy! I do and nope, not gonna give it up. I've just started drinking 2 cups of caffeinated after decades of decaf because of hypoglycemic issues, but I'm keeping an eye on it. If it gives problems, I'll go back to decaf. This is from a Cooking Light article about 5 foods you should keep in your diet (along with peanut butter, eggs, avocado and mushrooms):

" Why it's good for you: The average cup of coffee has hundreds of different chemical compounds. Maybe that's why news reports about coffee vacillate between lauding its health benefits and labeling it harmful. Still, the benefits of coffee seem to outweigh the negatives.

To name just a few: Some Arizona researchers recently discovered that caffeinated coffee helps improve memory in older adults. A new study from the United Kingdom suggests that small amounts of coffee consumed throughout the day can increase alertness and improve performance on all kinds of tasks, including those that require hand-to-eye coordination and attention to detail. Preliminary studies suggest regular coffee drinking may lower risk of type 2 diabetes. A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that people who drink a daily four to six cups have a 28 percent lower risk of developing this illness--which is fast becoming an epidemic in this country--than folks who drink less than two cups each day. I'm betting it lowers the risk of Type 2 because caffeine tends to lower the blood sugar (a real problem for hypoglycemics, but was a problem for me while my BG's were up and down).

Couldn't agree 1000% more. I drink coffee all day. I've given everything up. The hardest for me so far has been smoking. I'm 2 months in on that one, and no alcohol for 2 months also.

I would rather jump in front of a bus than give up my coffee at this point. It's the only thing keeping me sane.

I gave up coffee during my first pregnacy and somewhat during my second.
That's enough sacrifice.
I am cold brewing coffee now for my afternoon cuppa, it tastes really awesome.
I add ice, a bit of MCT oil and a bit of HWC. It is amazingly good. Did I say I think it tastes great?

Garlic, if you do it, don't do it cold turkey.
A LOT of people get an afternoon headache from caffeine withdrawl. It doesn't go away when you give it caffeine.

Suggest you taper down with half decaf half regular, then 1/4 reg to 3/4 decaf, then all decaf, then quit coffee.

I'm all decaf now, except when I drink a cup of the 1/4 caffeinated pot I make when my husband wakes up.

So far, it's all good..... no issues.... but I never drank much in the last few years, though about 4 or 5 years ago, I was drinking 50 ounces a day.... I got laid off from my job of 19 years, and the free coffee went away, and I went to about 10 ounces a day, most days, and maybe 25 ounces a day 2x a week.

For the last few months I have had about 4 -5 cups ( 8 ounce cups ) per week, and one 1 iced coffee per week.

Today I just woke up and decided to not have coffee anymore.... I'm trying to cut down on HWC. Plus, since we only have a Keurig, I don't like spending 50 cents a cup, LOL. I am really a tightwad on some things..... Don't get me started on hotel rooms!

So, I haven't missed it at all.... I am hoping that I convince myself at some point soon, to only drink water, an occasional glass of tea, and the occasional Powerade Zero.

I don't drink beer or really, any alcohol.... maybe 2 - 3 mixed drinks a year.... and no beer.... I don't like beer even a little bit.

These days, I guess, my only vice is the once a month cigar I smoke.... and even that is only April - October, so I can sit out on my patio and just enjoy the day and enjoy the experience.

Keurig? Seriously, less than $6 each at walmart (amazon carries them, too) - these let you use your own coffee for a fraction of the k-cup cost
I have the green one. It uses little paper filters that are also very inexpensive (also at walmart or amazon).

Yeah, I have one of those, well actually a different one with a metal filter, but same idea. .... but it's too much like work for me, and I would need to have about 6 different coffees in the house. My wife buys cases of mixed coffees from a lady she works with, and they are about 50 cents a serving.

I have the ecobrew one but it's a lot of work . Same with the keurig one that came with the brewer. I find the melita with the little filters super easy and, since there aren't any decent salted caramel or butterscotch k-cups, I can use my favorite coffees

Not me; I've already been there & done that. But good luck!

I went without for a full year, not even drinking decaf. It made absolutely no difference in my life.

I read up on the benefits of coffee and added it back. It has made a difference because I like coffee and enjoy drinkinng it. I would say I've always been a moderate coffee drinker, not a heavy drinker.

Why do you think coffee is a bad habit?
Various studies have all cited health benefits to coffee...including decaf.
I understand that you don't really like it but that's a matter of taste not of 'good vs. bad'
I use starbucks dark roast coffee's both regular and decaf. I use a Keurig machine but I have one of those little basket thingies to scoop my own blend in.
coffee with hwc and ez sweet is one of my daily pleasures.
Would never consider giving it up.

OMG!!! if you register your Keurig on the website they send you a buy 2 get 2 free (24 packs) and you get coupons and member prices. Not to support your habbit, just saying haha

I am doing it to rebalance my hormonal cycles. I have episodes of waking up stressed for no reason in the middle of the night and reading it could be the morning coffee as it misdirects what is already misdirected (adrenal fatigue). I won't bore you with details as it is different for everyone.

I have a Keurig, use it almost every day & have never spent a penny on K-Cups so that excuse doesn't work with me.

I use reusable filters that fit in My K-Cup. Some universal brand I got at BB&B. I tried the kind that don't need to go in My K-cup and they were hard to clean & broke easily.

Ah, note my "almost every day..." That is right; I actually decide not to have any coffee every once in a while.
