Restaurants with a low carb menu????

I'm curious, can you list any restaurants in your area that specifically have a low carb menu or low carb listings?

this weekend we had breakfast at a restaurant called Country Cousins in California and they listed "make your breakfast low carb by substituting hashbrowns and toast for cottage cheese and tomatoe".

I loved seeing it, it meant they wouldn't look at me funny when I asked for that anyway!

Do you have any restaurants that support your LC?

There is a super delish Thai restaurant in my town that will make any of their dishes with bean threads instead of noodles. It is really awesome!

On our menu, we have a build your own burger and one of the options is "no bun". I made sure it was there

I live in California too, and almost everywhere I go they accommodate low carb. You can usually ask for salad, broccoli. mixed veggies or cottage cheese and tomato as a side. Most places will leave out the bun or bread if you ask as well. At the ihop where I live, you can ask them to make your omelette with fresh eggs and leave out the pancake batter they add. The one thing that is good about California, is so many people are so health conscious here and following so many diets, there are tons of accommodations made without hassle.

I'm sure this is going to sound dumb but.....pancake batter in omelets? Do they do that???

We don't eat at chains very often, so I'm not sure if they still do, but Ruby Tuesday's used to have low carb side options like mashed cauliflower and roasted spaghetti squash.

Panera has a low carb menu but you have to go online for it (the hidden menu).

I have found that any place I go is happy to substitute potato for extra vegetable, or just leave it off altogether. A place I frequent makes these awesome breakfast casseroles and I just have them leave out the potato. The current one is over ratatouille, so they just give me more of that. Yum!!

At one place I get nachos without the chips. I got a look at first but now it's my regular thing and no one blinks an eye.

I'd say 99.9% of restaurants do not have a "low carb" section in their menus. Here's how I handle it. Burgers: no bun. Hot dogs: no bun. Appetizers: cheese sticks or salad. Sides: cole slaw or veggies

Goodbye yeast rolls, potato wedges, baked potato, rice, etc etc etc.

Ruby Tuesday is not my favorite restaurant. They are pricey for the amount of food they bring you. HOWEVER, they have the widest selection of non-starchy vegetables I have ever seen. They even have mashed cauliflower. But beware that it is made with cornstarch and sugar. Still, I guess it helps.

I live in Arizona but we're vacationing in the Chicago area. There's a restaurant in Hoffman Estates, IL that serves "zero carb pizza." The crust is made out of 100% ground chicken. It sounds weird, but when you haven't had pizza in a couple of years, it's pretty awesome. The name of the restaurant is Eshticken.

OMG, next time I am in Chicagoland I am going to have to go there!

I went to a Ruby Tuesday's for the first time over 4th of July weekend. I thought it was great and was so happy to have (what appeared to be anyway) LC side items.

That said, I can find LC things at almost any place, and/or request appropriate substitutions.

Cracker Barrell has low carb section on both the breakfast and lunch/dinner menus. Both have yummy options! Red Robin offers a low carb bacon cheeseburger (wrapped in lettuce) and you can substitute the fries for a side salad.

I also have a Chinese delivery restaurant that will make meat and veggie dishes with no sauce (steamed chicken/beef/shrimp with veggies) then when I get it I add butter and soy sauce. Yummy!

Ruby Tuesday has a mediocre salad bar, but at least you can eat low carb.... They also have awesome hot wings that actually have a little heat to them... Not killer, but hotter than most " hot " wings found in restaurants.

I have yet to find a restaurant in my 4 wks of low carb that has not accommodated me. I have not had any weird looks at all, I think more people are becoming accustomed to customers requesting low carb. I eat out a decent amount since I am on the road a lot for work.

Favorites:
Red Robin: They give you any burger with no bun, wrapped in lettuce or just plain. I like mine with no lettuce wrap since the lettuce gets soggy and gross. And they add an extra patty for 1.99. Pretty good deal. And the side salad is great, and I usually cannot eat it, as I am full from the burger. Usual order: Royal Robin with swiss, no bun, mayo on the side.

McDonalds: Easiest fast food meal is 2 McDoubles, no bun, no catsup, no onions, with only pickles and mustard, and mayo on the side

Any wing restaurant: I like ordering my wings naked and get the sauce on the side. That way, I can control sauce, and eat little, cause I love the flavor of chicken wings plain. Some favorite places include Chili's and Domino's Pizza.

Those are the places I have had good luck so far. In NC, there are a few Ribeye's Steakhouses that have a great Grilled menu. Today at a lunch meeting, I got a grilled pork chop (supporting my industry, lol), with a side of steamed veggies (picked around the carrots to get mainly broccoli and cauliflower. It was easy enough) and they gave me more veggies instead of bread. Great lunch for 7.99.

All in all, restaurant eating has been fun and rewarding to see what changes I can make to my meals to continue this WOL. I survived a 5 day business trip and came back still in ketosis, so it can be done! Good Luck!

Yeah, I don't have any trouble eating out. The most trouble I've had was when I was in New Orleans, where it seemed everything was breaded or a salad (I'm allergic). But we were eating in a very restricted area and in a time crunch, due to the conference, so I couldn't explore too many options.

But mostly, I have no issues eating anywhere, any time. I sub more veggies for starch if possible, and eat well. I don't care if they have a special "Low Carb" menu, I just order what I want and ask for it to be made how I need. No biggie.

At my sister's favorite italian place, I can get meat sauce over a bed of steamed broccoli or sauteed zucchini instead of pasta.

Most any place will give you extra lettuce leaves, tomato, and pickles in place of the bun and fries on a burger platter.

"Double veggies, no starch" is well-understood by most servers.
Sometimes when they ask what I want for my two sides, I have to say "broccoli and broccoli".

Oh, and check the 'add-ons' in the burger section. A lot of times they'll give me a serving of avocado, cheese, lettuce/tomato, and bacon, each a la carte, without ordering the burger.

we get lettuce wrap or bunless burgers almost anywhere. The only place that wouldnt lettuce wrap was Denny's... which was weird but they did bring a bunless burger.

Hi Sheila:

I'm not sure what the OP meant but in my experience, yes, they are another name for cellophane noodles.

There are also bean sprouts (which are the vegetable without processing which I believe are pretty low carb and a good "filler" for asian menus).

Be careful with low carb menus. If you look at the nutritional value of the food, many of them are not really low carb...particularly if you have to count gross carbs.

I have no problem eating out, but I'll usually order 'clean'. Grilled, roasted or baked cuts of meat/poultry or fish and I always ask if they've used a marinade on them. I explain that I'm diabetic so this is very important. They're more likely to check and be honest if they think they're going to get sued by feeding you something you aren't supposed to have. Then vegies that are also steamed, roasted, etc.

When travelling, we'll eat at Wendy's or similar places where I can get a cheeseburger and a side salad. I usually carry my own dressing in the cooler cuz I hate their fat free choices that are usually loaded with carbs.

I went out for lunch today.... I wasn't expecting to have what happened, happen.... mom and pop place.

I ordered a 1/4 pound burger, no bun, extra veggies...... the bill came and it was $1.50 more than I expected.... they charged me extra for extra veggies. Now, I was upset, but I didn't ask for the charges to be removed, though I did tell the owner that if you are going to charge $1.50 more, then the waiter or waitress needs to tell people that before they send that order to the kitchen.....

That said, it was one heckuva good burger, and I put a mustard / mayo mix on it, which has become my favorite condiment mix, now that I am really limiting ketchup. ( even the low sugar one, because it is so dang expensive )
