panera: buyer beware

I stopped by the panera bread restaurant today and ordered a large iced green tea expecting it to be plain. Much to my suprise it's sweetend with passion fruit and mango. 44g carbs! Next time I'll stop at the starbucks for my iced green tea.

Thanks for the warning. Panera is not very low-carb friendly.

Even when you're sure the person taking your order speaks & understands English you still have to doublecheck everything!

It took the waitress at a sit-down restaurant THREE tries last week before she got my order of unsweetened iced tea correct.

BTW, Panera has a decent - but small - Hidden Menu. Google it online & you'll find a few LC friendly things. Nothing on their regular menu passes my requirements for healthy food.

Yes, always be sure..... I was told that the butter pecan syrup they use in Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee was SF, and just like DaVinci.... Turns out that it isn't even SF. Though, DD does have several SF syrups.... Just not the butter pecan. SIGH!!!

That hidden menu is so stupid. I had not been in the place since I went low carb. Why are they hiding it? Lower profit margin on those items I guess. They don't want you to order those if you will pay the same price for just flour.

I really enjoyed the tropical hibiscus iced tea from Panera last week! I asked if it was sugar-free and they said yes. But I just looked up the nutritional info online, and there's 27 carbs!! Aargh! I never thought to look it up before.

Their hidden menu items sound promising though!

The hidden menu is a strange idea. Do they have any printed copies, or do you have to look it up before you go there?

Their site says to just tell the cashier that you want to order from the hidden menu, and they will take it from there. Whatever that means. lol
