Do Antibiotics cause weight gain, anyone?

I started getting my DH's strep throat just as we are leaving for vacation this week. Started antibiotics two days ago and today was 2 pounds up!! Ate nothing out of the ordinary except for three bites of coleslaw. Guess i will have to wait to see which is the actual culprit? So frustrating! Have lost 14 pounds and wanted the last one gone before I left. Maybe meat and eggs and dairy only will get me there cause now I have three to lose by Friday.

It seems my first time around years ago that antibiotics slowed me up though?

Antibiotics really slow me down. I had to take them last year for a dog bite so I know it was not an illness that slowed my loss. I have no words of wisdom to help you get the loss started again. Finish the course of pills and stay on your plan.

For me, they might slow me down, but not stall me completely. I've been on six or seven rounds of antibiotics (I've lost track) and four rounds of steroids since January, and I've still lost over forty pounds. Some rounds I lost more, some, I lost less, but not enough for me to fret about it.

Drink PLENTY of water, though! I really push the water, and it definitely helps.

You might suffer a bit from water retention but that is it ,just water not "weight".

I hate antibiotics for so so so so many reasons. But they make me retain water and I definitely don't seem to lose weight on them

One thing to consider with the use of antibiotics is that they will disturbed gut flora and that is a big issue with weight loss.

They are sometimes very necessary and once started must be finished but the thing to do is to make a point of trying to restore your flora with probiotics and fermented foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt with life bacteria and a # of other great options.

The temporary lack of weight loss is secondary to restoring health. Think of it as a bit of 'maintenance practice'.
