You have a point there thatphdguy. Right now i'm doing Atkins Induction/Meat and Eggs. And I'm terrified that all the fat is going to make me...well... fat. That's what I get for listening to the garbage society has thrown at me for 29 years on the nightly news and medical articles saying "Fat is a killer" and "Steer clear of it" etc. Several members on this site with their stories and their talking to me have proved otherwise. And it shows. I've lost as of today 5 lbs in 2 days. So I say, bring on the fat. . . on my plate not on me that is. LOL

I finally bought a new battery for my scale and find myself weighing every day after telling so many people not to do that! At least I am no longer in denial about my weight.

I might become a daily-weigher when I get close to goal. Right now I am forcing my self to just weigh once a week and take measurements every 2 weeks.

I still have so much to lose and I think the days when the scale is up (like today) I feel like a failure, even though I've not "cheated". It's so frustrating...I am going to try to start only weighing weekly. I think it would be much less stressful for me, at least until I get close to goal.

I only give myself a recorded weigh-in once a month, but I sometimes step on the scale once a week just to "check in," though I don't really let the number impact me.

One thing I just did last week was measure myself since I started a regular workout routine. I wish I would have done this at the very start since I know I've lost inches judging by the fact my pants are starting to fit correctly again, plus it would have given me another point of reference when the scale lets me down.

I often feel frustrated as well with the scale, whether it's fluctuating upward, stagnating, or not going down as fast as I want. And while it's not always easy, I try to think of how far I've come instead of focusing on how far I have left to go. It helps me keep things in perspective and usually allows me to continue on without feeling too down.

And sometimes I just have to remind myself that I need to be ok with slow and steady as long as I win the race.

You know, it sounds really silly, but back when I would give the scale too much power and control over my moods, I knew I couldn't weigh once weekly bc I always overestimated the loss and was then disappointed .. So I started recording it daily as an informational tool (like u are recording data, nothing more) and I switched my scale to KILOS! That way I had less emotion about the number, since I can't to pounds to kg in my head, keeping the data in kg really helped a lot! Wacky I know but hey it might help someone else!

Great idea, Natalia. Have no idea if my scale will do this, though.
I have ended up weighing myself everyday after telling others not to.
I see the scale so get on it. I need to put it some place where I see it just some times.
In 2 1/2 weeks I have gone from 172 down to a low of 169 but hovering most days at 170, but with bounces higher. I am not concerned yet, because my clothes are all looser, but I'd sure like to start weighing consistently in the 160s before too long. I am guessing my old scale is not accurate, I am just hoping it is consistent from day to day. I am also starting to think it only weighs in whole numbers as I am not getting any decimals. Hmmmm.

Bella, if you flip over the scale, there just may be a switch to toggle from lbs to stone or kilos.

I am glad your scale has been kinder to you!

I also struggle with the scale. Actually, I've been forcing myself to only weigh in once a week I was told that was best. So many people here seem to be daily weighers.

Is there something that makes daily weighing better than weekly even though the body fluctuates so frequently?

It just depends on your needs and personality.

I like daily weighing because I like data. I'm a numbers geek, and weighing daily (along with hydrostatic body fat tests, monthly measuring, and other things that others may find cumbersome) helps me understand how my body functions.

Because my scale weight fluctuates very widely, regardless of almost every measurable factor, I may never know how I'm progressing if I chose to weigh weekly (I might be in a peak or a valley). If I'm up 5 lbs in one day (not abnormal for me), it doesn't make me freak out or think I'm actually gaining fat. I know it's just water, and it doesn't affect my mood for the day. I keep on doing exactly the same thing, day in, day out, and eventually the scale will show the goods.

This is my daily weight graph since my January 3rd restart. I haven't changed one thing about my diet, but you can see what I mean about bouncing down the graph. It is sometimes frustrating, but it is going in the right direction. That's what matters.

Weighing daily also helps me stay on plan. When I stop weighing myself, I know I'm slipping into "uh oh" territory, soon to be completely off-plan.

For some people, it's the opposite. If they're up a pound or two one day, they might be worried about it the whole day, or try to change something about their plan. If it affects their mood for the day, or triggers other bad things, they're better off not weighing as often, or not at all.

There's no reason to weigh more often than is helpful to the individual. Some people don't weigh at all, and they're doing great.

This is EXACTLY why I can only handle weighing myself once a week (if that).

Ntombi,
Ditto!
I do weigh everyday and have a similar graph. I bounce up and down all the time, but weekly it's usually a downward trend so I'm headed in the right direction.
Nice to see someone else's graph look like mine!

The scale and I are still on good terms with each other. The last time I weighed (I weigh every 5 days) I lost another 6.4lbs. Thats the biggest drop ive ever had in a round. Here is hoping my progress continues.

After years of hating my scale I have finally accepted it for what it is. We have a decent relationship, but it's not perfect

I usually weigh every morning, but I'm having some "issues" right now, so I didn't visit today.

I wont weigh myself until im back home at the apt. And if I have gained its nothing an egg fast cant get rid of im sure!

Phdguy: Bring a small cooler and put it behind your console. Every restaurant has LC option except maybe a coffee shop.
How many hours: days is the drive?
Do you want to limit eating out?
Are you eating in your hotel? Amenities like mini fridge? Micro?

I live about an hour away from VA Beach. Nice area, but very big and a tad confusing! Tons of places to eat too and lots of great seafood!
