Ashamed...

I fell off the wagon pretty hard. It all started last Thursday when I went out to dinner with my friend. I had all good intensions to stay on plan, but the garlic bread basket got the best of me. I had two small peaces. But that's all it took...the next day, Friday, I ate pizza. The Saturday after, something else with carbs which I cannot remember. Sunday, pizza again. This past Monday, a half of a wrap and yesterday, another half of wrap, a brownie and pasta AND a klondike bar! Thankfully the scale didn't go up. But I know any moment it will if I don't get back on plan.

So today starts a new day but a day that I am back on plan. I know it's going to be more difficult now because the cravings are back in full swing. But if I did it before I can do it again.

You can do it, and you will. The cravings will subside.

I have had experiences like yours and I have come to treat carbs as a drug that I must avoid. There is no "little bit" for me.

I’m right there with you! Fell hard Saturday and Sunday and dusted myself off Monday morning. Monday was HARD! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other (one minute at a time) today. It will get easier tomorrow.

P.S. You LUCKY you don't gain! I go up ten pounds easy when I overdo carbs!!

Ray, great that you are back on track with your plan. Don't feel ashamed though . You did what probably 100000 people around the world are doing and that is to eat the "normal" foods for our society . They do you no good but nothing to feel ashamed about.
It would be much more interesting to explore how you can make your eating plan exciting enough to not look in envy at the wheat eaters .
Hope I don't offend. It is just that theer are so many posts today that relate food intake to definition of self .

Get right back on. It's good you didn't gain. I would have been up 5+ lbs! Eat some eggs or a big steak and get those cravings under control.

It is normal in any big time eating change for life. the backtrack and runaway train.

key is catch it, own up to it, get very hard into your good menu to cut those cravings again.

Been there myself. It all started with an apple. By the end of the week I was eating cereal, ice cream, and candy. It lasted about a week.

I'm right there with you. Had ice cream Monday night and chocolate caramels last night, plus a ton of peanuts both days. Really annoyed at myself because I'd been doing pretty well up until then.

But I can't change what I did - only what I will do. So climbing right back on the wagon. Good luck to you!

This happens to us all, don't feel bad. About three weeks ago I had a day where I ate TERRIBLY. I had a pop tart, pizza, mashed potatoes, chips, cookies, I just ate terribly. At least you realize your mistake and you know what you have to do to get back on track. The day after I ate like that, I had carb cravings for a week, but I fought through them. You can do it, and like I said, don't feel bad we all have these moments.

I know I have been there. It happens to the best of us...Try not to feel too bad. The best part is you realized it and got back on track asap.

Nothing to be ashamed of we are all human after all. But you noticed you had derailed and you are getting back on track that's the important thing. Not to mention the fact that you ate so 'carby' and still managed not to gain a single pound.

Don't be ashamed. Don't give food that much power. It's food. We have to have a certain amount to survive, but it shouldn't make you ashamed. Every day is another chance to eat a way that makes you feel good about yourself, and you are taking that opportunity. That's a great thing!

Thanks everyone. I did good yesterday. I had massive sweet cravings so I did have 1 tsp of PB to take the edge off. And this morning I woke up starving! I cannot wait until I get paid tomorrow to get my EVCO. I miss having my BPC in the mornings.

Well, at least you only fell off the wagon on the carbs. I fell off the wagon on both carbs and alcohol. One craving just intensifies the other. So as of today I'm back on low carb and hopefully back off the alcohol. I was off both for 6 weeks and felt a lot better, however I didn't even lose one pound, so I gave in to the little voice that said "Hell, if you're not losing any weight, why put yourself through this? Have that drink, then have that pizza, etc." Gotta get back to it, though. I felt better even if I wasn't losing weight, and who knows, eventually I may start losing.

I have actually used off plan gains as motivation for weight loss.
It has worked. I'll have gained several pounds from a binge, then gotten a little panicked and ended the week with a net loss.
Anything we do can be turned around to motivate us.
It's all perspective and state of mind.
You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!

It happened before when I was on SB where I went off plan and still maintained my weight for a while. I think this time, because I was a lot younger back than, it is because I was in ketosis. I think it was taking my body a little longer to realize that it needed to stop burning fat for energy (tricked my body I guess). Hopefully I caught it in time before it realized it. lol.

Vacation next week (as well as my B-Day). I'm a little worried about it. But I'm really really going to try and stay strong.

Oh boy, I hear that. The other day I ate a bowl of strawberries that were very sweet and I had the worst cravings I've had in a year. I ate them with creme fraiche assuming the fat would mitigate the response a little bit but it didn't have much effect. I was reminded of the bad old days when I couldn't stop thinking about food all night long and throughout the next day.

It's kind of disappointing because I have been looking forward to eating sweet berries this summer but I think I'm going to have to take a pass unless it's a really special occasion.

On the other hand, I was reminded of the dangers of eating real sugar again and that's probably a lesson I needed. I've been spoiled by not having to depend on will power over the last year and had a big wake up call with this event.

It seems like a pretty normal experience for making this into something sustainable. Many (myself included) need to find out just how bad it is to be back on the other side. The trick is to get back to low carb as quickly as possible and then consider it a lesson learned.
