OK, so I decided to really make sure I don't eat processed meats for now.... So tonight we are at a restaurant, and the salad bar is my only choice... it isn't a great one, but good enough to have a decent meal..... Nice greens, cheese, a slice of onion, some peppers, some ham....

I go back to the table and take a big bite..... and the ham wasn't ham at all... it was bologna! Who the heck puts chopped bologna on a salad bar? ( This was a chain restaurant ).....

In the light I was in, it looked like ham to me.....

Honestly, there's not much difference, carbwise. Most ham has at least a couple grams of carbs per serving anyway.

Garlic, you really should try to be more in control of your environment. Try to pick restaurants that have a steak or burger on the menu, that includes the vast majority. If you are going somewhere that has nothing for you to eat, eat before or after. But, going to restaurants and weddings and leaving itball to chance is not going to work very well.

Well my plan was to eat at this place all along. I knew they had a salad bar..... No way I order a $9 burger that comes with fries, and not eat the bun or fries... And I know that maybe I could sub out the fries. But I doubt anybody knows every item on a restaurant's salad bar. Yep, the plan was to have the salad bar. I had seen it before, and under the lighting that was there, the bologna looked like ham..... Not much you can do about that.

Shrimp cocktail, skip the ham.
Or order a side of bacon or sauteed mushrooms or whatever they're offering to top a burger with (such as real cheese instead of those mystery shreds on the salad bar). Sometimes there's all sorts of groovy stuff like avocado for the burgers and they'll sell them for add-on prices of a buck or so.

For me, it doesn't matter what I'm ordering in a restaurant - when we eat out, I rarely lose. At best I stay even. I have to eat at home to be in control. (Of course, I've also only lost 10 pounds in 2013 so I've had to come to terms with long-term slow-loss/stall.)

I know for me the hardest thing about this year is trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong because lord knows I want to fix it. But I'm getting smaller, and even as I've only lost 10 pounds people see a difference. And that 10 pounds is 10 pounds I'm not hauling around. I've analyzed and analyzed, and I don't know what else to do except keep doing what I'm doing and know that it will be slow but time will pass. I say this because sometimes it's not anything you are or aren't doing - it just is.

I eat out fairly often and still lose.

The first time I did Atkins, I ate out even more often than I do now, breakfast and lunch every single weekday, and sometimes dinner too. I actually lost faster that go 'round.

As to your larger point, I agree. I know Garlic doesn't agree, but he's losing inches, so he's doing fine, in my estimation.

Finally, a really solid meal at a restaurant with no doubts.

It was brunch, as I didn't even get out of bed til 11, today.....

2 cups salad greens
6 ounces ground beef
Frank's Hot Sauce
Blue Cheese Dressing.... they make it onsite
couple slices of cukes
1 cherry tomato
about 1/2 a slice of onions

That was all a salad....

and then 4 non breaded buffalo wings.

Good job!
Also, if you are going out to eat and the only low carb option is a salad. Try to eat before you go cause a salad with some ham wont fill anyone up!

How old is your scale? Do you need to change the batteries? Maybe it's not you or your diet...and just the scale you are using.

My experience as well

Your post changed my status from lurker to registered! I am having the same experience. I started in April and lost 5 lbs during Induction.

Since then, I have been an angel and keeping under 20 net carbs and have lost about two inches from my waist but have not lost AN OUNCE! I have been exactly 150.4 every week but am consistently shrinking. I have three scales and they are all working.

Nothing in my experience adequately explains why I am shrinking but not losing lbs. I like the adipose water explanation but I understand your confusion. It does seem to defy logic that inches can be lost but no weight comes off.

Just wanted to say that I understand.

It's a common pattern. Lots of folks report an alternation between inches and weight. Someone else can try to explain the why of this. But take satisfaction in your inches lost. Your weight will catch up. (most likely)
