Beans?

I was wondering, are beans really not a low carb food? I guess I am a little confused because growing up, I was always told how nutritious beans were. So now, I am having a hard time giving them up completely. Any words of wisdom?

Beans are NOT low carb but they can be nutritious. Some are able to add them back in when they get to Maintenance. YMMV.

Sorry to say, however nutritious, they are very high carb.
Black soy beans are a lower carb choice.

Do you know that saying that starts, "Beans, beans, that magical fruit . . . "?

My ex husband was on a diet that pretty much matched mine only he ate beans and something else I didn't, like quinoa or something. So, it's probably OK for some diets, but maybe not the LC world. I think cutting them out totally would help rid that desire for them, remembering you can try to add them back in later, just not right now?

people tell you whole grains are great too! and sweet potatoes. quinoa. that doesn't mean low carb.

black soy beans are low carb. you can buy the cans from Amazon. but many here believe the unfermented soy is VERY bad for you, so don't overdo this!

I sometimes toss a can into a big batch of soup in the winter.
They are firm, so do well in a three bean salad for potlucks. I often mix with edamame and chickpeas, or sometimes with green beans. Not that I am eating any of that right now, except the green beans.

Thank you, these are all good points. I think to do things right, I will put beans out of my mind with the rest of the bad carbs.
