low carbing cured my lower back pain...

I have chronic lower back pain. I can barely walk a city block and then I have to stop and sit. Needless to say my life has been very limited and I hate walking anywhere because of the pain.

I have done atkins on and off for a few years and the most amazing thing happens about 2 to 3 weeks in....my back pain just goes away. i would say its diminished by 90%. I get up one day and can walk as far as I want.

I was so curious why and recently discovered that sugar is linked to chronic pain. I am so grateful to Dr Atkins. I can now have an active life and get the exercise I need to be healthy.

Just wanted to share this this life changing benefit ....

I didn't know that. I too had debilitating back pain which has been much relieved since I've been eating low carb. I assumed it was the weight loss and my ability to do more exercise, but perhaps there's more to it!

Carbs are known to be inflammatory, so if your pain (back, joint, whatever) is due to inflammation, it's not surprising that cutting way down on your carbohydrate intake will help.

Glad you've gotten such drastic relief!

It only took about 1 week for my lower back pain to become almost non - existent due to the anti- inflammatory effects of low carb eating!

I am really liking this thread.... since I feel everyday of my age...... and its not good. Starting again in the a.m. to cut out the sugar and starch. Its an ongoing battle.

Weight loss definitely helps, but, cutting out so many inflammatory foods - sugar! wheat! grains! starches! is huge in cutting down the pain. I had daily headaches and hip/knee/tailbone pain so bad I'd go to bed crying some nights - it's all gone. Totally and completely gone. IBS is gone, and so is my tendinitis in my wrist. No way I'd ever go back to the way I ate before.

Both hubby and I noticed the lessened inflammation/pain levels when we went grain free. For us, it took more than simply lowering carbs--we had to eliminate ALL grains (thank you, Dr. Davis of Wheat Belly fame).

Recently, we decided that we had been grain-free long enough and had popcorn twice in one week. After the second small batch, we both noticed that joint pain had increased. No more popcorn! It didn't start out as an experiment, but it did teach us that we really can't eat grains at all. We really did not expect to feel any impact from having a couple cups of popped corn; but we did, so out it goes.

We'd rather have less pain than eat grain!

I have chronic acute Sacroiliitis, an inflammatory condition of the sacrum, and LC very nearly cures it. I do not have flares when I am eating clean LC. Granted, I don't have flares ALL the time when I am not lcing but if I do flare induction can have ne up again within days rather than weeks.

Grains are also inflammatory.
After reading Wheat Belly, I stopped eating grains.
My chronic knee pain was gone in less than a week.
I was amazed. That was last September, and except for an occassional 'twinge'
I've stayed pretty darn near pain free.
When motivation starts to wane,
remember the pain......hehehe.

I believe it. I read Wheat Belly, and I suffer from sciatica - when I low-carb, my pain almost completely goes away!

What I've noticed in about three months is absolutely no ache in my hips.
I had started noticing it when I turned over at night and some nights it was really painful.
Gone completely. Low carb? Coconut oil? I have never incorporated CO into my diet until recently

My husband's lower back pain goes away soon after he starts low-carbing. Sugar and white flour=inflammation throughout the body and that is the root of MANY diseases too!
