Giving Up SF drinks?

I really think it would be to my advantage to give up SF drinks.

Anyone else have good ideas of how to quit craving them?

Anyone that quit SF drinks and saw really positive results?

Looking for anyone to join the thread and help me in avoiding SF drinks. (Being honest, I am going to limit to 1 per day, and that will help allow me to actually achieve this goal)

Going to go for 1 week, and see if any results. Hoping other posters give me ideas of what to watch for in my results......

I assume you mean giving up fake sugar?
I've never had the craving, can't stand the taste, so this is not an issue for me.
The only fake sugar I've had in in recent years is Zevia Ginger Root Beer.
But I haven't been tempted to buy any more since I restarted in March. I threw out a container of Nurish Green Energy yesterday that had been languishing in back of refrigerator . . . really can't stomach the stevia even.
Not trying to me a smart-ass, I know I am really not answering your question, but just observing how different taste prefs are. My husband puts splenda or stevia in cereal that already has sugar. Yuck!

I don't know if the gradual elimination will work, or if you are better just going cold turkey. As for table sugar or sugar in fruits, these do taste good to me, but I don't crave. I gave up wine completely a couple of months ago, as I was in denial about how much sugar I was getting from overdrinking wine.

I was a total soda addict. I still cannot believe how much soda I drank a day. Yet, it really was not that hard to give up. Coffee was a lot harder. I just went cold turkey. Even during my last pregnancy when all I wanted was a coke, I resisted. Just make the mental choice to give it up and you can do it.
I now only drink water.

Earlier this year I gave up my beloved Diet Pepsi and all other AS drinks for a month. I drank a lot of water & tea and sometimes "lemonade" with stevia.

I didn't notice any difference at all. I am back on the DP, but I have cut back.

Interesting. Thanks for the responses.

I am just trying to find something to help me "stay" on plan, or if there is something triggering to make it tough to stay on-plan...

I'm also a diet pepsi addict. I gave it up for a couple of weeks, but didn't notice any difference at all so I eventually added it back in. I found that I wanted to eat MORE without it. I was trying to find something to take the place of drinking it, and found myself wanting to turn to food.

That's just me though, you may find your body reacts better to giving it up.

You probably don't want to hear my story...

I cut all soda/coke/pop of any kind cold turkey over 11 years ago. Cut all aspartame & Splenda & have used pure stevia powder extract (no fillers) ever since. I never looked back, never considered adding AS back in.

I noticed no benefits other than the knowledge I was no longer putting unhealthy chemicals in my body. I never had bad side effects from using AS. Admittedly, I did not drink gallons of diet soda per day; my use was moderate.

BTW, my younger brother was, until recently, a heavy Diet Coke drinker. He is currently undergoing chemo & radiation treatments because of a brain tumor.

It is suspected that the heavy use of AS contributed to the tumor. My brother is almost positive that his diet coke habit is what caused the tumor.

I am wondering about these factors. I am not a Heavy pop drinker, but 24 oz per day would be a guess.

You can transition to drinking the sparkling waters, Arrowhead, make the flavoured ones, if you want the fizz, without the AS.
I havent drank sodas in years, they just taste like chemicals too me
I like the Pelligrino mineral water also.

Gave it up for a few months, drank a lot of water, never noticed anything different, came back to it. I drink a lot less diet soda to prevent caffeine later in the evening keeping me up, but I probably keep Crystal Light in business by myself.

I gave up diet colas almost 2 1/2 years ago and other diet soft drink soon after.

I used to drink pomegranate juice mixed with soda water (club soda) 1:5 ratio, but now I avoid fructose, so I guzzle plain soda or mineral water with no flavouring. I'm also partial to rosehip tea.

Good luck!

Glad to hear from everyone. I really like Stevia, so trying to stick to herbal tea with stevia. We did a restaurant today, but they had SF Green Tea, so I had that.

COME JOIN ME IF YOU WANT!!!

Going to give this challenge another chance.

Gotta give up something, to get the scale moving. It has just been creeping up.

Soda pop is the thing I am throwing to the curb. Try for only 1 pop per week (restaurant factor) and no more than 1 SF drink each day. That allows for a coffee, a tea, or other, but only 1.......

I cold turkey soda (having 8-10 a day was very common) on my first day into my WOE and have not had one since. Not sure if that helped in my progress but it did help in making water my main fluid intake since i had rarely drank water prior to my WOE.

I had a self October challenge to stop adding Davinci SF Syrup into my coffee and had lost 4lbs more that month vs the previous month. Not sure if that was the direct reason as i also stopped adding HWC, but my food intake was pretty much the same.

With all that said i do take a daily glass of Ecodrink for cramps which contains Sucralose and Stevia Extract.

Sounds like you have done a good job on this front.
I know Cold Turkey everything doesn't seem to work for me, but I think if I limit to 1 per day, it will help. And soda out completely is important for me.

I was never a big pop drinker (though I do love Slurpees) and giving soda up wasn't too hard for me. I drink a lot of club soda or sparkling water with a bit of fresh lime or lemon.

I can tolerate moderate amounts of Splenda with no stalling. But aspartame definitely stalls me.

I went off of diet mtn dew last year. I just stopped cold turkey and ended up feeling like dookie for almost a month. Didn't expect any withdrawal symptoms, but googled it and found out aspartame withdrawal is pretty common. Anyway, I would suggest anybody stopping aspartame to slowly wean themselves off to perhaps avoid any problems.

I have been drinking Coke Zero (before that, Diet Coke) for ages. It does not really affect my weight loss.

I gave up diet sodas by switching to sparkling water (LaCroix has different flavors). At first I did not like it but now I love it. No sodium, caffeine or AS. Really good!

So far, doing real well on not drinking SF. Not missing them too much. Not a headache, either. Sometimes wonder if Aspartame causes headaches, much like caffeine....... But may be just for me.

iakaren, Hang in there! Diet drinks are really hard to give up. I will go months without the soda but then go back for some reason. I find myself remembering how good they once were but need to think more about how good I feel without it. Keep trying.

I have also found that I can go without for a time, but as soon as I start drinking one again, pretty soon it is one every day. I think it is a lazy factor, because all I have to do is open one up. If I had to "make" something, it would be easier to stay away from them.

Also the restaurant factor is big, because sometimes restaurants have such bad water, pop is the safer taste choice......

This. I remember thinking this. Now, doctoring up my drinks has become the new normal. And really, I had to tell myself, how much time does it take to squeeze some flavoring into a bottle of water? My latest favorite drink is iced water with the WM brand Southern Sweet Tea with a squeeze of key lime. It is really good - and worth the 60 seconds it takes to prepare. (I just timed myself. )

edited to add: And way to go! Glad you're not having any headaches!

I gave up diet soft drinks and my anxiety level dropped dramatically. Strange, really. I now drink sparkling water and regular water. When I am not eating low-carb, I will occasionally have a sweetened iced tea or regular soft drink with a meal (2 or 3 a week, tops). I don't ever want to start drinking diet sodas again, considering how they made me feel.
