My experience with alcohol

I cannot lose weight if I drink - period. I have tried wine and liquor (no beer cuz I don't like beer) and it stalls me like crazy.

I know others have said that they can drink and lose - so it is YMMV for sure.

My theory is that alcohol is a alcohol stresses the body and produces more cortisol which in turn causes weight gain.

what do you think?

There could be something to that. I didn't drink a lot while I was losing, but since I've been maintaining, I've allowed myself a (lot) more red wine. All was good for a few weeks, but now I'm getting a little weight creep.

However, it could be all the cheddar cheese and almonds I scarf after I've had a couple of drinks! LOL!

Your body willl process alcohol before fat (that's my lay understanding).
I avoid it completely now. Some people can drink in moderation. But if you are drinking and stalled, I'd recommend avoiding it. It's not on Atkins induction list of acceptables.

I find the same thing happening now that I'm older. In my younger days I drank like a fish and had no problems maintaining my figure. Now if I go out one night and drink vodka tonics, or beer flavored water I gain 5 lbs overnight that takes a good week (or more!) to get off. It's annoying and frustrating because, I'm not gonna lie, I like to drink!

Yeah...I like to have a couple cocktails every so often too! But, I guess it is more important to lose weight than have a buzz.

People who can drink and lose weight are fortunate!

This is true. Our bodies will burn calories from alcohol first. I don't want my fat-burning to be paused at all so I don't drink.

The scale may go down for some when they drink but, if there is alcohol in their system, it is just a loss of water, not fat.

I am going to join this club ,too. I tried to experiment with red wine two days running and ended up with 4 lbs more on the scale. Just like that. It is only water weight but still . Additionally I diid not feel all that good on those 2 days.
My theory is that the body pauses ketosis as it sees sugar but the insulin response is low due to the low carb nature of the diet. Alcohol stays in your bloodstream for hours and in those hours the body cannot get at ketones or at carbs. To my mind that would explain why we feel alcohol more on low carb diets and also why I felt unwell, too. It is a bit homespun but maybe there is a bit of truth in it.
