Cocktails Anyone?

What do you drink when meeting friends for drinks or attending a cocktail party?

I am well acquainted with the lowest carb route to intoxication, but I'm looking for low carb, non-alcoholic drink recommendations. Aside from diet soda and H20 (sparkling or otherwise), nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

Thanks much for any suggestions.

Thanks Jamgyal! I might try that as I tasted Ciroc for the first time a couple of months ago and it was quite tasty. However, I was looking for a non-alcoholic cocktail. Should that even be a term lol? The more I say it, the more ridiculous I feel.

No need to feel ridiculous. Alcohol has its benefits, and I think we all know what those are, but it does effect us as much as anything else we eat or drink. And there's nothing weird about seeking out an alternative.

I really like a sparkling water w/a good squeeze or lemon or lime. I ask for extra lemons or limes when I order them. I have also ordered a virgin Bloody Mar at social events when I don't feel like drinking alcohol. You get all the spicy great taste of a regular Bloody Mary, w/out the alcohol, which I never taste much in a Bloody Mary anyway. There's a restaurant I go to that has the BEST darn Bloody Mary recipe, that it's almost a shame to spoil it w/booze.

And here's a real quirky suggestion. I have a friend who doesn't drink alcohol. But she gets her "cocktails" whether it be sparkling water, or a virgin anything, w/lots of "drink accessories." She asks for toothpicks loaded w/olives, citrus, whatever they've got. They arrive at our table looking like a celebration of something, LOL. And I have more than once, sipping my cocktail, thought her drink looked pretty darn good.

Thanks Blue Skies! I will likely go with the sparking water with all the fixins lol. I'm always kind of confused about which is which but I guess sparkling is a clear enough instruction to differentiate it from tonic or the other choices.

The bloody mary mix sounds delish, but I would go too far with that and I know the nutrition info would likely not be a friend. I used to have this delicious one at La Paz mixed with Absolut Peppar - yum!

I like Diet Sunkist or Diet A & W Vanilla Cream Soda-
over ice with a splash of cream. When I'm drinking
alcohol, I like to add whipped cream flavored vodka
to either of these drinks.

The mio and dasani drink enhancers are tasty and fit easily in a purse or pocket.
I'm grooving on orange/tangerine in fizzy water.

Bloody mary mix isn't terrible, but check the label for hidden sugars. My beloved Zing Zang is 4 carbs per 3 oz, and I can make a tasty Virgin Mary from V8, horseradish, worchestershire, hot sauce, and lime. Of course, you can't chug one after the other at that carb count, but a small one is really nice.

I like an iced coffee at gatherings. Cold coffee, almond milk, and some stevia or other sweetener.

Cucumber water is tasty and looks so pretty in a pitcher or carafe-- just slice cukes into water, and let it sit in the frig overnight to develop flavor.

I just have iced tea or water with lemon.

I have turned down all alcohol since early last November. I'd rather keep burning fat than have any alcohol.

No one seems to mind that I'm not drinking as long as they can have their own drink...

Very nice suggestions emel! It's obvious that you entertain. Thanks!

Just now, I was drinking iced coffee while surfing. I read your post and stopped to add almond milk to it. (I usually drink it black.) The taste combo is very pleasant! Thumbs up!

I went with the sparkling water last week and it was very pleasing ! Thanks BlueSkies!

Tonight I think I'm going with the iced coffee. I'm not expecting almond milk to be available so I'll have to look into my other options Thanks Emel!

P.S. - Given the week I have had, I might have to go with the real thing as recommended by JamGal and Pami. I'll see how it goes.

If I am driinking somewhere that I can bring my own beverage, I go for flavored vodka and a diet soda (Sprite, Mountain Dew, or cream soda). If I am out at a bar, I just get a low carb beer, because they usually don't have anything but Diet Coke and I don't like it.

When going out I get vodka and club soda, or just plain club soda. Then I add in my own packet or two of True Lemon/Lime/Orange.

I am in LOVE with La Croix brand sparkling waters. Fun flavors, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners. They cure my soda cravings, satisfy me when everyone is drinking and I'm just not up for it, and taste pretty awesome with some vodka too

I LOVE gin and tonic...but in my "new" life I've taken to drinking just DIET tonic water. For me, the bitterness is refreshing and it really tastes like it has alcohol in it since the tonic water flavor usually overpowered the gin anyway.

Add a twist of lemon or lime and I still feel like I'm "drinking" with the gang. Even at home now, I sometimes have a glass of iced diet tonic in the evening during summer--feels kind of celebratory and like a treat since I rarely do anything with artificial sweeteners in it.

A German friend who didn't like american beer used to mix it with sprite.
I'm going back to the beach for a couple days and will try a miller lite mixed with sprite zero.

I was thinking about a wine spritzer, too, just white wine with seltzer and lemon wedge. So a little snort, but not a heavy-hitting drink.

I will give Zing Zang a second vote, but my favorite is a gin and diet tonic with a twist of lime.

I think the issue here is the quality of tonic water. As a long time G&T drinker, I can tell you that the quality of a good gin can be made or broken by the tonic water. I tend to prefer gourmet tonics, and in particular FeverTree Light. It allows the taste of juniper to come through without drowning all the botanicals. Give it a try........ ;-)

A gourmet tonic? I've never heard of that...only know about Schweppes, but then I do NOT have an educated palate (which drives a couple of my foodie friends nuts). So where would I find such a tonic? And do you know if it comes in diet?

I usually buy it at our local Total Wine store, but I know that a friend has found it at Whole Foods.

It doesn't come in a diet, but they have a Naturally Light version. It does however contain 4.8g carbs per 100ml bottle, but that easily makes 2 drinks. I have been drinking them throughout my LC journey and have not had it cause any stalls or gains, but remember, like everything YMMV.......

Fever Tree Naturally Light Tonic Water

Ingredients: Spring Water, Pure Fructose (fruit sugar), Citric Acid, Natural Flavours, Natural Quinine.

Nutritional Information:
(Typical Values per 100ml): Energy: 86KJ, 20.5 Kcal; Protein: 0g; Total Carb: 4.8g of which sugars: 4.8g: Fat 0g of which saturates: 0g; Fibre: 0g; Sodium: trace mg

100 ml is 3.4 oz. That serving info is based on 2 servings per bottle, because the bottle is 6.8 oz. so you need to double the carb count you've been using.

I usually stay with something plain like gin and diet Sprite with lime, since I've never found a bar with diet tonic. But if I'm going to something "fancy", I take a single package of Baha Bob's margarita mix and ask the barkeep to make a margarita for me with gin (yeah, strange but I much prefer gin to tequila). One package will make two drinks the way I like them. I've never had a barkeep object to using my mix.
