Lactose Intollerance? (Maybe TMI)

I was doing good on a ketogeneic diet but couldn't make it to 2 weeks due to constantly running to the bathroom. Basically, water was coming out along with intense cramps and burning. I had to eat a box of crackers and other carbs just to soak everything up in my stomach and make it stop. I was not craving carbs, I needed the bathroom problems to stop and it did.

I was drinking 2 protein shakes a day mixed with water and 2tbs of cream. Isn't cream supposed to have less lactose out of any dairy products? This seemed to trigger it because it went right through me. I tried cutting this down to 1 a day and it still happened. One of the things that makes low carb appealing to me is being able to just drink shakes mixed with fat. I can drink anything Venti sized from Starbucks made with whole milk or half&half and I never had these problems. The protein Powder was "low lactose" and under 2g of carbs and it's a brand I've used for years. So "lactose intolerance" doesn't even make any sense!

I just can't figure out how to get back on the diet if I can't drink most of my calories which is something that I need to make it work for me. I do not want to cook or heat things up 6 times a day nor eat fake foods or fast food. Anyone else ever have this problem? I'm wondering if I really just needs a lactose free protein powder and if I have to give up the cream? Maybe coconut cream instead if I could find it?.

This sounds a mystery to me, but I am wondering if you could add coconut oil. I don't have lactose issues, but I've started subbing in my coffee anyway becuase I've grown to like it.

What was the base of your protein powder . . . some are soy, some are whey, some are egg, or some mixture. Could that have been the issue rather than the cream?

Or could it have been something else you ate?

I'm not a fan of coconut oil. It just floats to the top in things unless it's hot coffee like you said.
100% Whey Protein. Definitely not something else I've eaten. The drinks always triggered it. My diet is pretty basic and nothing not typical for me. I can drink a 20oz latte first thing in the morning but not a protein shake mixed with cream? Mind boggling.

That sounds awful. If you can drink a latte with whole milk and not run to the bathroom, it doesn't sound like you are lactose intolerant.

I've read that whey protein can give some people diarrhea. I'm not sure what the reason is, but you may want to stop the shakes for now.
