Candy-like recipes that are low in carbs and very high in fat. There are some recipe threads for various types. A lot of them include coconut oil, nut butters, butter, and artificial sweeteners. Some are based around cream cheese instead.

Most low carb plans have moderate protein, so people are getting the rest of their calories from fat, one way or another. This is one way to do it.

I make mine with approx. 2 parts cream cheese to 1 part extra virgin coconut oil and 1 part almond or peanut butter. I add as much splenda as I need to sweeten it up, and Mexican vanilla. You can also add in things such as chopped 85% cocoa bars and unsweetened coconut flakes. Microwave everything together until melted, pour into cupcake cups in a muffin tin, stick in freezer, and when frozen, put in a freezer bag or Tupperware in freezer until use.

Some people use butter instead of cream cheese, but I prefer the consistency of the cream cheese.

OK dumb dumb question :o

But, **How** do they help you? I mean of those doing this, is there any improvement in loss? Is it just kinda a meal replacement? I don't get it :dunno:

Since you're supposed to be getting most of your calories from fat, and carbs
are limited, and too much protein just acts like carbs anyway, these help to
supply some of the fat you need without adding significant protein or carbs.

1) coconut oil is thought to be beneficial for weight loss. These are a good way to get coconut oil into your diet.
2) There is a line of thinking that says a low carb diet should not be overly high in protein, because the excess protein break down in a way that makes us hold weight just like carbs do. And eating too few calories can stall weight loss. For those who restrict carbs and do moderate protein, the only way to increase calories is to add more fat. Fat bombs do this. (you could up your cals by adding alcohol, but imo that isn't a good way lol)
3) sometimes you just want a little sweet treat. These are a legal/beneficial way to do it.
4) If I eat these, I don't have to drink that nasty bulletproof coffee lol

I have never tried coconut oil. I see in at Wally world all the time and have heard others here rave about it. Next time I go there, I will purchase some and then come back here and read up on what all to do with it :laugh:

I detest the smell and taste of butter, always have :dunno: The only other fats I use is olive oil ( on rare occasions) and canola oil in general when cooking. Things like cream cheese is a rarity too, unless I'm making something specific.

I don't recommend that Luana brand you find on the baking aisle. It's heavily processed so the beneficial stuff is degraded out of it. Look for cold pressed or expeller pressed.

Yes. good point. Coconut oil is beneficial and can be part of a healthy diet, but it still has around 100 calories a tablespoon and many fat bomb recipes include cream cheese, hwc, and nuts which just add to the calorie total.

I like coconut oil for frying certain things but I prefer to use my calories on protein/veg because they keep me full much longer.

It's funny this came up. I looked at my meal plan and saw it was a little too low in calories, so I added a fat bomb to the plan and now it's all good.
I did a small batch--- tbl coconut oil, 1/2 tbl butter, scant tbl cocoa, splashes of da vinci vanilla and chocolate, and then I added a tbl of P2P because it looked a little thin. So that's about 200 calories, which is just what I was lacking.

I am not a fan of the fat bombs but think bullet proof coffee is awesome. It kind of is a liquid version of a fat bomb.

I am also not a big fan of fat bombs, but I do love to mix in a tbsp of butter, a tbsp of cream cheese, add a little stevia, nuke it for 10 seconds and eat it like that. I guess that's technically a cream cheese cloud, it's jut not frozen. I hate them frozen! Ick!

I've been making a quickie version like that in the microwave, when I feel that I am hungry. I am just using T of Butter and T of CO, a pinch of salt (I need more salt these days) and either a T of almond flour and/or a bit of baking choco.

I am spending a week at a retreat like setting later this week and I am going to use fat bombs as my secret weapon. All the meals are vedic . . . no eggs or meat. Some milk and paneer type cheese and feta. Breakfasts look nearly impossible, so against recs I booked myself into a hotel that has a breakfast. I am going to have to be careful with the remainder of the meals. It's a bit ironic because the food is quite good, all organic, and I have been thrilled to eat there in the past. I will certainly have a good choice of veggies, but the fat and protein will be a bit challenging. My plan is to take a jar with equal parts of CO, butter and almond butter, and conjure up my own fatbombs to help me throught the day. Not sure how I'll keep them solid, so I may just spoon out of the jar if necessary.

Other ideas?

Made these a couple nights ago-Kinda like a fat bomb

natural peanut butter - 1/2 cup or so (mine is 1g net carb per 2 tbsp, so 4 total)
2 tbsp splenda (granular) (roughly 4g carbs)

Mix well and spoon into ice cube tray (I sprayed the tray with cooking oil so they would pop out easier)

unsweetened natural hersheys cocoa - 3 tbsp or so (3g carbs)
3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp splenda (or more if you want it sweeter, roughly 4g carbs)
*Melt chocolate and butter in microwave, add splenda until well mixed, pour over the peanut butter in the ice cube trays - freeze overnight, use butter knife to pop out.

I made 6 total so they are about 2.5 carbs each, you could make more if you made them smaller and they would be less. Eating 2 of these is a perfect sweet treat and gets some fat in to your day.

It was intentional that they were layered, I poured the chocolate on top...and it hardens, sort of like a "buckeye" but low carb. I've also used the same chocolate topping on cream cheese clouds and it hardens very nicely and is SUPER good.

Not sure about the silicone, I used a standard ice cube and the butter knife worked good to get them out. When I make cream cheese clouds I use a melon baller and a cookie sheet and they freeze in perfect little balls. Mmmmmm and I just drizzle the chocolate topping on top.

If your coconut oil is too hot they will separate sometimes.

Heat your fats gently in the microwave, or placed over a bowl of hot water, or gently on the stovetop.

I usually do 30 or 40% power for 30 sec at a time, heating until just melted.

Original recipe:
4 T melted coconut oil
3 T melted butter
3 T almond butter
20 drops liquid Stevia or the equivalent, or to taste
1 T cocoa

melt the CO.
melt the butter and almond butter together. Stir all 3 to combine. Add sweetener. Stir in cocoa. Drop puddles onto plastic-lined plate or fill cupcake liners or ice cube trays and freeze.

My tweaks:
I use more cocoa, probably 2 1/2 tbl. I ease up on the almond butter because it isn't great for my own particular weight loss adventure.
I use a few drops liquid stevia, a tot of chocolate da vinci and a dash of vanilla, a serving or two of truvia granular, and a few squirts of liquid splenda, to taste. I like to add walnuts, but not right now. Or dried unsweetened coconut if you can find it. But plain is good, too.

Plain: makes 8. 145 cal, 14.7 fat, 1.5 protein, 1.7 carb

A little off topic, but I brought my salad lunch to work today in two containers, spinach in one and delicious toppings in another. I dropped the delicious toppings, so all I had for lunch was SPINACH. These fat bombs are sounding WONDERFUL to me.
