Those who have about 5 pounds left to lose...

Have you or do you plan to make any special tweaks to get off these last few, super sticky 5 pounds? I feel stuck and am looking for ideas. Right now I am thinking I will add more exercise and drop calories to less than 1500. What I really want is to hear from you guys, though. What have you tried? Anything successful? Anything unsuccessful?

For me it was calorie and fat reduction. Takes me forever to lose a pound.

I fought pretty hard to get rid of the last few pounds. Monitoring Carbs and Calories is the only method. The theory behind Low-Carb from Dr. Atkins is that it is self limiting diet. Meaning it will naturally curb your appetite assuming you are following the plan correctly. So it should also mean that as you continue to drop weight you will eat less and less and the demand for fuel is decreased along that same path.
1800 Calories may have worked fine at 200 lbs but you may have to cut to 1400 at 140lbs.

It's a pretty individual thing though so what worked for me may not work for you. Stay on task and just use a little common sense along with some trial and error and you will get there.

I'm in the same situation. Just a few more pounds to go and the scale is just bouncing around - up a pound or 2, back down, etc. However, I feel like right now I'm at a good calorie level. If I reduce that too much I will start to feel deprived and hungry and I know I won't be able to maintain that. So I think I would rather have these last few pounds go very slowly than risk falling off the lowcarb WOE because I'm hungry.

I have thought about doing a fat fast for a couple of days just to see if that kicks the metabolism a bit. :dunno:

I've actually decided to maintain where I am. I'm comfortable with the amount I eat and the fact that I can occassionally go off-plan and still maintain. I feel that at 125 it will take more effort than I'm willing to expend. I also like my body size right now, so I'm going with it.

This is a great point. I was at 175 and in my effort to drop down to 165 I became so obsessed with it that I ultimately gained instead of lost. Moving back down to 175 now and will just stay there. It's easy to hold there and I don't have make myself crazy.

Yeah I think this is very much like myself. As much as I LOVE to see the lowest number on the scale I am pretty happy how I look and eat. I dont go off plan but I enjoy all the endulging that comes with the plan so to reduce my calories too much would take away alot of what I love about this woe. I hope my body will just continue to shift and drop the couple more pounds all on its own over time and if it doesnt I am okay with that too. Also my body tends to hang on tight to pounds since I started running but my body is toning and pant size is going down.

The scale would not budge for me for literally years! 6 weeks ago I switched to up day down day intermittent fasting. I have lost 6 pounds! And I am not even doing low carb! Check out the JUDDDD site on this website. Tons of info.

Sometimes I think it would be easier to lose 5 ponds than 5 pounds. :)

This is me too at the moment. However, after vacation in two weeks I may play around with it some this summer and try like heck to get those last few pounds off. If not, no biggie!

Spanilingo 05-22-2013 09:34 AM

Probably a little of everything. Some higher carb low calorie days... Some vlc carb days. Some low calorie days... Some higher calorie days . Some highwe fat days. i think overall you will be restricting calories but your body 's nurtrional needs vary. I wouldn't purposely monitor each nutrient ... You will kind of naturally Judd

LisaLisaLisa 05-22-2013 09:58 AM

I've been experimenting with higher fat and lower calories. So far, it's working like a charm!

I loved ponds...made me giggle

avid 05-22-2013 06:00 PM

I'm in that same place.
I'm within a few pounds of goal yet stuck.
Since going LC I never bothered with calories, but there's
no getting around it. Once you get down to those last few pounds
of excess fat, calories have to be reconsidered.
I'm cutting back on my dairy. HWC in particular.
I drink alot of coffee with HWC and I think it's interfering.
I"ll let you know how it works.
Oh, if your like me exercise won't help a bit.
I work out regularly and it makes no difference.
Sorry bout that, truly wish it made a dent.

Thanks for all these replies! I appreciate the guidance.

THIS COMMENT MADE MY DAY!!!

avid 05-25-2013 07:36 PM

down one pound since last post.
cutting back on the fat as in HWC seems to be working.

lanita 05-25-2013 09:34 PM

I went down almost a pound, too!! I stayed under 1500 cals and reduced my cheese intake. I was eating a lot of fancy Parmesan. I hope this continues for me. Good job, Avid!

:high5: Let's do this!

snowdancer79 05-26-2013 06:37 AM

I'm in the same boat. I'd like to lose another 15, but my body is very happy at this weight, and I'm losing 1/2 lb a month if that. I know from past experience I basically have to live off of small amounts of meat and eggs, and little else to get to where I want to be. I just don't feel like I can deal with that yet.

avid 05-26-2013 09:35 AM

Don't be so hard on yourself.
1/2 pound a month is great.
Just think, by this time next year you will be six pounds lighter!!!:jumpjoy:
