BACON!!!! and sugar

Is there any bacon that doesn't have sugar added? While at the store I noticed every package I picked up had sugar or brown sugar listed. Will this affect my weight loss?

It drives me crazy that they all use sugar to cure the bacon. I haven't found any that doesn't, but maybe somebody else has. Personally, I use the Wright's Bacon, and have it every morning for breakfast. Thankfully, so far, it hasn't hurt my weight loss.

I wouldn't worry too much about a little bit of sugar in bacon. If you want to get bacon with nothing else then get fresh side pork.

I use Applegate Farms sunday bacon. It has organic pork, water, sea salt, and a small amount of celery powder and evaporated cane juice. But, I'm not worried about the cane juice. And, most important of all it isn't just a bag of mostly white fat like some other more mainstream brands.

When curing meats, sugar is pretty standard because at a certain point you need another agent besides salt to preserve and draw out water. Most people don't seem to have much problem with it around here. I've never seen any without. It can be done without but I don't think I've ever seen it in any commercial products

I generally don't worry about it, but there is a low-sodium bacon in my grocery store, I think Farmland brand?, that is also sugar free. So check out the reduced sodium bacon.

For whatever reason, most reduced-sodium bacon is sugar free. I just sprinkle on a bit of salt before I cook that bacon and it is perfectly delicious. While I am sure that the small amount of sugar in "regular" bacon won't cause much harm, I still prefer to avoid it.

We love that stuff at my house, but I am pretty sure there is still sugar on the ingredient list.

Gwatney's - no sugar - bacon. Thinner than Ms. Wrights but no sugar. I can only find it at Kroger. They have several types so you have to watch the package. I also noticed Hormel came out with a new bacon that stated "no nitrates" etc. That was at wal mart. Bought it and it was quite good. I'm a bacon girl every single day for 6 years now and never slows me down even if I eat Ms. Wrights.

Most low sodium bacon does not have sugar.
I do not believe that the amount of sugar in bacon causes me any problems.
But YMMV so you will need to decide for yourself.
And by the way Welcome!
