Hi!

I am new to this site and I am hoping I can get some encouragement and learn how to hang on to my new LC lifestyle. I was a very thin woman about a year and a half ago. I then changed my life and quit smoking. I am very proud of it, but I gained about 25 lbs and in return....I got what I affectionately call the inter tube! I have been caring around this heavy donut shaped waist line. Luckily, I hide it well... I went from a size 6 to a size 12. I am really concerned with it being there...hello! Can you say heart disease? The tube has been unforgiving...I have tried every diet to get rid of it and will not budge! I started low carb a week and a half ago and I lost the 8 lbs of water, but nothing since and the tube has stayed the same! I know slow and steadynisnthe way to go, but the tube has got to go! I can't even stand the thought of the beach..no bikini for tube girl!
I also could not figure out how to attach a picture my name...like everyone else... If someone could help... That would be great!

Welcome!! You'll get lots of encouragement here. I'll never ever be in a bikini, so don't feel bad, feel hopeful! Persistence is key, and making it your permanent way of life is the way to keep it off. Don't forget, if you go back to your old way of eating, that water weight will come right back.

Edit to add: Congratulations on quitting smoking, I quit too a few years ago, it is NOT easy!

Congrats on the q! My quit date was Jan 15, 2012, and I basically went the
following 15 months on NO KIND OF DIET AT ALL. Started LC again around
April 9 I think it was, and am down 15 now. The first 10 came off in a week,
then nothing for a week, then the next 5. That's the way it goes sometimes.
Anyway, welcome, and again, congrats on quitting!

Thanks guys... Quitting was tough, but also losing my small frame was hard. I am learning to love myself and my body..so I guess if the tube never goes, I will need to accept that. I have been walking a brisk 2 miles 4 times a week....

Welcome and congratulations on quitting smoking, that is very difficult!

Persist on your diet. A week and a half is no time to evaluate actual physiological changes. Give it, MINIMUM, 8-10 weeks before tweaking anything. We can only burn a certain amount of fat at a given time (that amount varies somewhat based on the person and diet, but there are upper limits) and it is a slower journey once the water weight has been shed. Keep at it, don't get discouraged, be patient, and your innertube WILL shrink.

Ok, I will just hang in there and cool it! I really enjoy this new way of eating. The only concern is that I am not sure i am getting enough calories... Should I even worry?

Glad to hear you are doing something about the "tire". LC is not a magic pill and like everything else doesnt work instantly, but over time it does work. Hang in there and enjoy a nice steak. This is a lifestyle, not a fad diet, and it has lots of fabulous benefits. Better health, improved self-image, and in time, a more beautiful you! Hang in there

Are you tracking your calories? How many are you eating?
It's usually not a problem, but for a few, it's easy to slip into
a low-fat, low-calorie mindset.
