Start Date: 8/20/14 for yet another time
Chocolate cheese?

Shopping at Aldi's last evening, we came across chocolate cheese. Nosey-ness got the best of me and I tried it. Well, it does not taste like chocolate at all, just like a dry provolone-ish cheese. It's white with chocolate looking pieces.

Has anyone else tried it?

Not chocolate but Kroger had some blueberry, lemon and cranberry cheeses recently but they all had a ton of sugar in them. I tried the lemon and I wasn't impressed at all. Like you said - it tasted like cheese. It had a nice (sugary) lemon coating, but inside there was no lemon taste at all.

I find the flavored cheeses a bit silly, myself. if you want mixed flavors, all you have to do is take a bite of something at the same time as cheese and chew them together! LOL

the flavored ones are useful more as conversation pieces for a fingerfood buffet at a party, I think.

it's very hard to make great cheese with junk in it. things like cumin seeds are fine, a few other things like that. and flavored soft goat cheese is a different matter, though it's still better to flavor it yourself. but sticking chocolate bits into a cheese just can't help the cheese, you know?

The ONLY flavored cheeses I like are two from TJs- one is an aged cheddar with carmelized onion in it and the other is the goat cheese rolled in blueberries. Holy yum.

I've had two excellent cheeses with cranberries. One was a cheddar and the other was something milder. Perfect for dessert.

TJ'S has a chocolate marbled cheese. Honestly I would expect it to taste more like 'cheese' that chocolate. I think it's white cheddar at TJ'S.

I love chocolate and I love cheese, but I'm not sure I want them together! LOL I love an extra sharp cheddar!


We were at the Farmers Market this weekend, and there was a gentleman selling chocolate covered bacon. Same thing, I love chocolate and I love bacon, but I don't want them together! Bleh! However my son loved it! LOL

I was not impressed but I was curious. I also tried goat cheese for the first time, garlic, not impressed either. I'll stick with the cheddar, jack or provolone. Aldi's does have an excellent garlic, red pepper flake mozz cheese that's quite nummy! And yes, I am an Aldi-oholic when it comes to buying my lc food!
