Size 16 question

I've made up my mind that my final goal will be to wear a size 16 jeans. I couldn't tell you the last time I was there, 25+ years ago, maybe. Anyway, I know all bodies are different, but if you're currently a size 16, or have been, how much do you weigh. This will give me a better guesstimate of what my final goal will be.

Thanks in advance!

nolcjunk 04-20-2013 05:05 AM

Unfortunately, sizing is all over the place nowadays and a 16 from 25 years ago will be more like a size 8-10 now probably.

Gibbs 04-20-2013 05:28 AM

I will take today's size 16, that will just get me out of the chubbo section of clothing :hyst:

Psmileyf 04-20-2013 05:30 AM

I weighed 200-210 when I was a size 16. I am 5'9".

Vilya 04-20-2013 05:35 AM

I am currently a size 16 in jeans. I weigh 188 right now, and I'm 5'7".

jhbyrd 04-20-2013 05:39 AM

Everybody is shaped so different but I wore a size 16 when I weighed around 200 and I am 5'3.

5'7"...227lbs...size 16.

It really depends on your shape as to what a size 16 will be for you. It varies a lot in this thread alone.

Mommie22boys 04-20-2013 06:03 AM

I'm in a 16 now, at ~195 and I'm 5' 5 1/2".

GAVIV 04-20-2013 06:05 AM

5'4" and I was in a 16 around 190-200

Vilya 04-20-2013 06:07 AM

Wow, this thread just goes to show how ball-shaped I am! My weight has always been in my stomach, so I have to be quite "thin" to even be a 16.

I know lots of people who are my height and weight and are in a 12 or 14. Not me, alas...

I was right around there when I was a 16. I'm 5'8"

raindroproses 04-20-2013 06:25 AM

Size 16 was my biggest size I believe, and that was when I was around 200-210 pounds as well at 5'6''... but I'm an hourglass, so that had something to do with it! Everyone's just shaped SO differently, so it's really going to be a personal sort of thing I think. But at least you'll have a ballpark range anyway probably by the time the thread is nice and filled up :)

Same here! Arrgh.

I'm 5'8 and was in a size 16 at 180-190.

Don't worry about sizes, they are meaningless. You are losing weight so no matter what your label says you are getting smaller.

princessmommy 04-20-2013 06:48 AM

When I was in a size 16 I weighed 207. I'm almost 5'5. Of course Some 16's fit better then others, depending on the brand, cut etc.

It can even change by how the weight wants to sit now compared to 25 years ago.

7 years ago I weighed less but was a size 22 sometimes 24. I got pregnant, had my son and after I ventured out of my daily uniform of pajamas and yoga pants and got new clothes I was a size 18. I thought I had lost a lot of weight but in reality I was heavier.

2 months ago I was the heaviest I had ever been...still a size 18.

We also must acknowledge that brands run differently too. Since getting down to a 16 I've had steps within the size. 1st I could only fit into my Apartment 9 jeans, now I've lost and inch or two to wear my Old Navy ones but I can barely squeeze into my pair of Levi's.

Demonica 04-20-2013 07:21 AM

I wore a size 16 in middle school, I think I weighed between 180 and 190. I'm not sure if I was 5'8" yet or not. I may have been 5'6" or 5'7". Of course that was 18-20 years ago too.

trumellow 04-20-2013 09:07 AM

I was a size 16 when I was at 200-215. I am pear shaped and 5' 6".

I'm the same height and wore a 16 at 195 too.

baileygirl3 04-20-2013 10:21 AM

I was in a 16 right after baby #3 and I was about 204 and 5'5. I was thought starting to get into 14's by then too

rubidoux 04-20-2013 10:52 AM

I know this won't apply to you, but in case some other shorties are interested... I'm 176 now and I've got two pairs of 16s and can only wear one of them, the other is super skin-tight.

Ocean 04-20-2013 11:02 AM

I'm short and carry my weight around my belly, so I was around 180-175 when I fit into a size 16. I was very excited when I was able to wear that size. I'm now a 10-12 at around 150.

Key Tones 04-20-2013 11:05 AM

I have 14s and 16s. I don't know which is true to size. I'm 5-10 and 196 this morning.

Oh, pear-shaped!

Just last night I pulled on a pair of suit pants size 14 that I bought years ago as goal pants. They actually fit. I could not believe it! I thought they would never; I figured I would only wear the jacket *someday* and probably donate the pants.

melisa82 04-20-2013 01:58 PM

5'6 203 pounds and size 16

debstin 04-20-2013 03:16 PM

5'4" and when i was at 175lbs i was fitting into my looser fitting 14's.

Erin57 04-20-2013 03:36 PM

5'9" and was about 190-200. I remember it well because it was the first time I had bought and worn jeans in years.

lanita 04-20-2013 05:44 PM

I wore a 16 at 175 lbs, but they didn't fit very well because my measurements were 40-32-44... So I had to buy everything to fit my wide hips. I'm 5'5.

sillyme 04-20-2013 08:45 PM

I'm 200 right now and in some 16's but not all! Depends on the place you get them. I'm 5'6.5"

Have sizes really changed that drastically over the last decade? In the mid-80s I wore a size 8 and weighed 120 lbs. When I lost a lot of weight 12 years ago, I was wearing a size 10 at 140 lbs.

This time around I started out in a size 16 and 200 lbs. At 187 lbs I'm still in size 16, but my jeans are fitting much looser. I have 2 pairs of size 14 jeans I'm trying to get into that are still too tight, and don't expect them to fit until I lose 10 more lbs. I'm short and bottom heavy though, and generally have to lose close to 20 lbs to go down a size.

mimivac 04-21-2013 06:50 AM

Yes, sizes have changed pretty significantly over the decades. At 120 pounds today, you might be in a size 2 or 4 (or smaller) depending on your particular body type and height, but most likely not an 8.
