anything floating in there?
the MOTHER is what makes vinegar vinegar! and most brands have been pasteurized to kill off the beneficial bacteria and organisms in it and so are clear and not cloudy

lol and this one says right on it

Got it!! Thank you!! My Heinz is clear, so obviously not what I want. The Braggs looks more like what you have in the picture, so that's the right one! I feel so dumb!! LOL

Yes, you definitely want Braggs (or else that specific type of Heinz, or anything that says "with the mother" on it or something similar like Braggs does). The floaty stuff is the mother, and from what I understand it's a type of mushroom almost that's formed while fermenting the vinegar... it contains all the healing properties

For anyone not convinced quite yet, I found an interesting article highlighting 8 of the benefits of drinking ACV... some of them were ones I wasn't even familiar with!
  • ACV has the potential to lower blood glucose levels by at least 4-6% in type 2 diabetics
  • ACV contains acetic acid, which may inhibit carbohydrate digesting enzymes in the body. This means while ACV is in the gut, starches may be less readily absorbed and may not have as intense an effect on blood glucose (and therefore less of an insulin response)
  • ACV contains pectin, which may help to lower LDL cholesterol levels
  • ACV may actually help to break up fat in the body, and aid in burning it
  • ACV has antibiotic properties, and can aid in combating bacterial infections in the stomach and gut
  • ACV can help relieve hiccups
  • ACV can help with sinus drainage
  • ACV contains amino acids that can help reduce the buildup of lactic acid in the body from exercise or stress

For the beneficial effects, you need to drink raw (unpastuerized) apple cider vinegar, with the mother. Besides Bragg Heinz now has an unfitered raw ACV. Another brand is Eden Organic, though that one says "lightly filtered". I plan to stick with Bragg. I keep a small amount in the fridge for easy access and to increase palatibility, but the rest of the gallon stays in the pantry. It stays good for a long, long time. The bottle I'm currently using is probably a couple of years old.

Thanks all! I didn't buy the regular ACV at the grocery store because I was pretty sure I wanted the one with "mother" on the label. Glad I got that cleared up.

I never refrigerated the last bottle I had.

I threw it out a few months ago, but after reading Mistiz' post I guess I shouldn't have.

I want to start the acv tonics and bought a bottle of braggs today. I also eat coconut oil straight off the spoon every day....so harm in doing both the tonics and the coconut oil right? TIA

What about the capsules? I have a GIANT bottle of ACV capsules, but I stopped taking them because I stalled and was worried that they might be the problem.

When I was looking at the ingredients, it lists rice flour and magnesium stearate, wasn't sure if those were going to effect my low carbing, so I quit taking them. What do you guys think?

If you go back on page 5 and read people talked about the capsules. They aren't the same.

Rice flour may, I'm honestly not sure. Magnesium stearate is fine I believe though, as it's in most of the supplements I take (and most supplements in general it seems).

Still trying to get at least a tablespoon a day in. So far, not a single pound lost.

I'm continuing to lose daily with ACV and two fat bombs a day, along with my regular meals. 0.8 lbs. yesterday and another 0.8 lbs. today. I'm taking about 1.5 tablespoons twice a day (3 T. total), once in the morning and once in the early evening.

Okay, for anyone who was wondering... ACV with the berry flavored stevia drops is DELICIOUS! I'm so glad I bought some to try it out

Holy Mother of God!

I just took a capfull-sized shot of straight up ACV. I've done it before but OMG! I somehow managed to inhale it this time which resulted in my gasping for breath! Be careful people, it's easy to choke/cough on this stuff when taking it straight!

I have a headache now.

Yeah, please don't drink it straight... it can do a lot of damage that way! There are plenty of warnings that advise against drinking it straight that I can't stress that enough! I can't even imagine doing that myself, sometimes my throat stings a little even when I mix it with water

I have tried adding ACV to my diet a number of times and in varying degrees of strength, but every time I end up with indigestion and sometimes even heartburn (which I completely eliminated with a low carb diet.) I don't think I'm one of those people with low stomach acid.

I do use a little bit on my salad with no ill effect, and I have used it as a topical for various skin issues, but that's the best I can do, I'm afraid...

What an amazing thread and it brought back memories of my grandmother who SWORE by vinegar and honey--a glass of it mixed with water, every morning and night.

I know I have low stomach acid, and after reading this I went out and bought some Bragg's. Just had a tablespoon of it mixed with a large glass of water (20 oz?) and some ice. It was VERY nice! Not harsh at all. Much different than I remember as a child (but I think my grandmother just used Heinz apple cider vinegar).

I'm going to start doing the tonic (without any sweeteners added) 3X a day...will be interesting to see what happens and if I can eventually take fewer betaine HCL tablets.

Been taking the tonic for about 4 or 5 days now, and so far, I haven't seen any changes with my weight. I'm hoping for a nice Whoosh soon! I have noticed that it helps control my appetite though, which is definitely nice!

I definitely plan on keeping with it though!

Did anyone get headaches when they started doing the ACV tonic?

I'm on day two now...mixing 1 tablespoon of ACV into about 20 oz. of water 3x day. I've had a nasty headache since yesterday evening. I'm one of those who RARELY get headaches and doing the tonic is the only change I'm made.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of detox process happening? Anyone else experience anything similar?

Thanks!

Hmmm... I didn't, but it could be some sort of detox thing. How's your sodium intake though? When you get extra potassium and you don't have enough sodium in your system that can throw some things out of whack. I wouldn't think the amount in ACV would be enough to cause any trouble, but you may want to try sipping on a warm mug of broth to see if that helps any or indulge in a salty snack. Sometimes an electrolyte imbalance can cause us to have headaches... it could also be because the ACV is flushing liquids out of your system quicker (I know I find myself peeing more when I drink it! ) so my best guess is either a detox or an electrolyte thing.

My mom used to keep a pitcher of vinegar & honey mixed in water in the refrigerator. It was so good! She got the idea from an old folk medicine book by D. C. Jarvis.

We would also drink diluted vinegar for stomach upsets, and it helped.

Rarely does my face break out, but of course it did this month. Just one big blemish right on my nose! After reading this, I decided to try the ACV on it. No joke, it cleared up completely within 2 days. I just dabbed it on there a couple of times a day and it cleared it right up! Crazy!!

Did you put the ACV right out of the bottle on your blemish or did you dilute it? I rarely get pimples myself but I've got 2 right now that you can't really see but I can feel, they hurt, and I want to get rid of them.

I just put the ACV right out of the bottle on it. That's exactly the kind of blemish I had, really painful and kind of under the skin. I dabbed the ACV on in the morning and twice at night. Seriously, it was gone in 48 hours. Couldn't believe it.
