Just a few questions

Ok my low carbers: Currently battling the withdrawl headache (I'm trying to get more water in to see if it helps) TMI I'm curious though, I know that they say to take a fiber supplement while LCing, but did anyone find it unnecessary and that LCing actually improved their bowels? I've spent the last 6 months battling with constipation on and off (the first time in my life) and in the last 3 days its been so much better. Also I'm finding that I feel so satisfied on a much lesser amount of calories now. I'm not counting them, but after having calorie counted for months and toggling the same 3 lbs, I decided to check my calories today. Before I was needing 1500 calories a day *at least* to make it through the day without being a total *****. Today I'm stuffed to the max and sitting at just over 1000. Anybody else had this happen?

I've never needed to add a fiber supplement, but it's probably one of those things that varies a lot by individual. I take some extra magnesium, which if overdone can have a sort of laxative effect . . . or so I've read.

I'm guessing it is the fat,um,greasing the way? Also maybe your last six months were an adult onset intolerance or allergy to something that is not on plan and now you aren't eating it?gluten maybe?

I recommend magnesium for constipation as well ( get a good form, like magnesium malate, start with 500mg). Magnesium also helps with headaches. Drinking enough water also helps move things along.

Eating less over time is normal, lc helps with appetite and a smaller body needs less fuel.

I have found that despite getting to where I am by eating up to 4000 calories a day I default to 1000-1200 unless I am bored or sick on low carb.
Insulin triggers appetite.Suppress it and voila! not hungry.

Thanks everyone ! I'm going to check into a magnesium supplement next time I go shopping. I even went out and bought coconut oil because I figured the carb cravings would be ridiculous and I know it helps as an appetite suppressant, but I haven't even had to touch it.

My husband actually gets impacted bowels if he ingests too much fiber.

It's happened repeatedly, and I have the medical bills to prove it.

Coconut Oil has been wonderful. We take it in the mornings (either as fat-bombs or bullet-proof coffee), and it keeps things moving nicely. If one of us starts to get a little backed up, we just have a little more CO, and things move right along.

I've never been so regular in my life. It's wonderful.

Also, yes, LC DEFINITELY decreases how much food I need in a day! It's great! I've had my bullet-proof coffee for breakfast, gone to the gym and tried to kill myself ~chuckles~ and then remembered I was supposed to take my daughter to the play-group at the park, and not had time to grab any lunch... and been just FINE until dinner time. I could never have done that before!

Oh, and MAGNESIUM is a laxative, but CALCIUM (like iron) tends to cause constipation.

When someone told me to up my Mag, for constipation, I didn't realize this. My magnesium came in the form of a Cal/Mag/Zinc supplement... which because of the proportions, actually made things worse.

So just be careful that you're ONLY increasing your magnesium, if you go that route! Learn from my mistake.

I don't feel the need to take a fiber supplement. They make me have a stomachache. Coconut oil is the perfect food to eat for bathroom regularity, IMHO.

Ditto. I was going to say the same thing but Rebecca said it so nicely that I just quoted her.
