Hi, I started eating low carb on my own about a year ago and then I became sick and was only able to swallow soup for a while from a severe throat infection. So, the low carb thing kind of went out the window for awhile and I gained 14 pounds! I'm back to eating low carb as of about a week ago and I've already lost 3 of the 14 pounds I gained.

I'm a mother to four 3 are grown my youngest son is 12 and I homeschool him. I am a grand mother to 10. I weigh over 200 pounds and I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. I am in pain most of the time so I exercise as much as I can. Summer is a good time for because I can swim in the pool without too much pain. Wow, that's a lot of information in a short post! LOL I just wanted to say hi and I've been hanging out here for a few days and finally decided to join!

Hi there, I'm looking to start eating less carbs and better over all. It's been very tough for me to get back on the wagon after having my daughter (she's 1 now) and I know this forum is so helpful! Hoping to stick with it and drop some of these extra lbs!

Hi Everyone -- I have actually introduced my self in the Century Club, but somehow missed this section of the site. Wow, it's a lot businer than I though. My name is Stacie, I'm 40 (soon to be 41) and what triggered my need to lose weight is actually multi-tiered. I went to the Dr. and discovered I was over 300 pounds (and I only stand 5'1") and I was devastated. I made a few lifestyle changes and started exercising on the WII fit, and got down to 291, and was expecting to break through to 289 in a few days. Instead the weight kept going back up, and I got frustrated. A week or two later when I went in to the see the Dr. for a follow-up appointment, I was at 305. I went to work after that, and I cried all the way there. (I work almost an hour from my home).

When I say that my decision was multi-faceted -- there were many other factors at play. Yes, I wanted to lose weight, but I have recently gotten divorced after 15 years of marriage. My soon to be ex found someone else, and his life has moved on. I am alone with 3 kids, and I signed up for match.com, and never once even got a serious interest. I want to be healthier, but I also want to look better, and now it has become almost a revenge type thing -- a "look what you left behind" to my ex husband. LOL. I know, maybe not exactly healthy motivation, but whatever works, right? In addition, I hurt all the time, my knees, my ankles, my feet swell. When I made the decision to lose weight, I joined a gym, and struggled to walk .5 mile. Now, almost 2 weeks later, I can walk nearly 2 miles (my high so far is 1.61, but I know I can do a little better -- I ran out of time). I haven't started using any of the weights yet, and the elliptical is still too much for me, but I feel tremendous progress just in increasing the distance I can walk.

Finally, I love to travel, and I'm tired of being the only fat person around. I want to tour so much more extensively. I don't want to have fears about the airlines forcing me to buy 2 seats, or embarrassment about my size. I'm seriously devoted to lifestyle changes.

This morning -- just shy of 2 weeks on Atkins, I got on the scale and found myself extremely frustrated. I had dropped to 291.2, and now, I am back up to 293.2. My scale won't budge. I know that I am in ketosis -- I purchased sticks, and they are a DEEP purple. I eat less than 10 carbs a day. I feel better -- in many ways -- mentally, physically, emotionally -- but I can't seem to see results on the scale. I understand stalls, and I seem to have some sort of block at getting past 291, but to stall so early is extremely frustrating. I'm going to work through it --- eventually it WILL move, but today, I feel just a little sadder because I didn't reach my goal of 289 by today.

Anyway -- just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. For those who are newer than me, welcome! For those who have been around and have been through this and made it past, you are my inspiration .

Stacie

Hi! As someone who has been overweight as long as I can remember (200s as a teen), weight-control has been a life-long struggle and I am determined to be the victor in this battle. I have had great success with LC in the past, and at one point dropped from 270s to 185. I've been "off the wagon" for the past 10 years while meeting and marrying the man of my dreams, having 2 wonderful sons, entering a very demanding, albeit rewarding, career, and discovering the source of pain that I've been living with for years. Throughout this time, the pounds gradually crept back on, and have recently piled on with the introduction of meds to deal with chronic pain. LCF has been an inspiring find, and an amazing wealth of information! Who knew Low Carb living could be more than meat and eggs? There's so much more information available now than when I was LC'ing before. The recipe room is chock-full of great ideas to help keep from feeling like anything is "off limits", and there is TONS of inspiration in reading the success stories. I am back in the saddle for the long haul, and look forward to sharing this journey to longer healthier lives with you all!

To Success!!

Amanda

New guy

Hello everyone! Today I joined this site and got out and jogged for the first time in years (usually I am a gym rat, but have been a slacker recently). Today is the day that I want to begin lose this middle age gut and that means CUT OUT CARBS. It's worked fantastically in the past for me so why not try again? It's great to find this site today and maybe find a support group.

Determined this time

I'm doing Atkins. I am on my fifth week and having no trouble with hunger, but I have to keep trying new stuff to keep from getting bored, so I'm sure this site will help me. I have a lot of weight to lose, so I was discouraged when I only lost half a pound this week. Then, I reminded myself that this is a lifestyle change, I know I am eating better, and I can feel changes in my body.
My "convincing" was a friend who lost a lot of weight, and then reading "Good Calories, Bad Calories". That book is amazing, realizing how we got things so upside down about obesity.

Changing my life!

Hello!
I am excited (and a bit nervous) to begin this lifelong journey of weight loss/maintenance. I am 27 years old and I can NEVER remember a time when I didn't want to lose weight! I have struggled my entire life with food and obesity. It has been a common theme in my family. However, my mother, brothers, and sister have all lost a combined total of 380 pounds in the past 5 years, which is phenomenal. I, however, am the lone fatty of the family now. Of course, they would never make me feel this way, but it doesn't change the truth. I have been married for 7 year to a wonderful man who is 6'2 and weighs 130 pounds. He's naturally very thin and has no idea what eating right and exercising is like. But he loves me no matter what and is very supportive of my goals. I also have two wonderful kids. They are the joys of my life and I long to be a good, healthy example for them! However, the most important thing in my life is my love for Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. He is what gives me strength, hope, patience, and joy.

I am doing the Atkins plan but without as much counting of the carbs and more following the guidelines for acceptable foods and amounts. I've been in induction for almost a week and the cravings are starting to pass. I also have been walking/jogging and doing strength training at least twice a day. I haven't weighed in yet so I am excited to do that Friday!

I would love support, advice, and friendship!

Hello from Denver! I just joined this week and have already met some very nice folks in the exercise "room". Being 6'3" and 203 lbs to start I am trying to lose some middle age gut so I don't look like a pregnant pencil. Goal is 179. We shall see!

new to the "diet"

Hi.... My name is Buffy... I started a ketogenic diet Monday. Alot of girls at work have been going to a bariatric specialist who basically has prescribed phenterimine and put them on low carb diets. They have all had good success so I figured i would research it and do it myself sans the specialist. I'm down 5 lbs this week and am super excited! Glad to find this site as well!

LCF is a large site and it can be daunting to know where to post!
So to help facilitate you getting your questions answered, please do check all the boards
Here are just a few:

Main Lowcarb Lobby - Low Carb Friends is for general diet related questions.
The Weight Loss Plans - Low Carb Friends section has a bunch of individual boards for specific plans as well as an "other plans" section for ones not covered. Because there are always new plans (and some re-kindled older ones coming back in style) the other plans board is a great read
Low Carb Challenges! - Low Carb Friends where you can find a group of other members with your same goals
Lowcarb Recipe Help & Suggestions - Low Carb Friends LCF has a huge, member driven recipes section
Medical questions? Health Support Groups - Low Carb Friends (but please, do not ask for or give medical advice as no one here can diagnose or treat you)
Want to talk about things other than diets? Check out the off-topic forums: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/off-topic/
Weight Loss Journals - Low Carb Friends For personal journals (but keep in mind they are viewable by everyone, they are not private).

Hi everyone! My name is Molly, and I've been maintaining my weight loss of 50 +/- pounds for about 3 years now. I've been out of the exercise habit for WAY too long, and I feel like I still have a little more weight to lose to be super happy/healthy-- although it's so hard to be motivated! I've been using the recipes and reading posts here for a long time, and decided it was time to join especially as I could use some support as actually being a smaller person and maintaining comes with its own set of social issues.

I am 27 (almost 28), and the wife of an amazing low carb husband and the proud owner of Cookie the pug! The only approved sweet in my life every single day.

Hi Everyone!

After years of yo-yo dieting, I went to my doctor and after asking a few questions, he told me to try Atkins. He also checked my thyroid and there was a lump on it! After a biopsy revealed it was papillary thyroid carcinoma, I had surgery to remove it.

I am now going thru trying different dosages of Levothyroxine to get everything regulated but I'm cancer free!

So I'm here to tell everyone to get your thyroid checked!

12 pounds to go 'til goal...

Good morning, all! (KJ, congrats on your clean bill of health!)

I'm a professional dieter who's ready to retire the title, lol! From past efforts, I know sugar and processed foods are my enemy. I'm expecting to lose about 40 pounds, but will know more when I get closer to goal.

I'm 49 years old, married, with two grown sons. A few years back I reached a healthy weight doing a modified South Beach, and that's what I'm starting again.

It's hard to take this journey alone, so I'm reaching out to you great folks to give and receive support. Good luck to us all! I look forward to chatting with you.

Cheers,
Dana

Newbie introduction

Good morning from the beautiful State of Iowa!
First let me say that I've been successful with the low carb diet until recently. What has happened is that my son, DIL and 2 grand kids (ages 5 and 8) moved in with us (happily empty nesters) 2 months ago. It has been so hard keeping on my low carb diet while they eat a tremendous amount of junk and overly processed foods. OMG! No wonder our country is becoming overly obese! The good thing is that they will be moving back out in 15 days...yes, i'm counting down the days! : ) Love having the Grandkids and son here but it's been so hard to stick with my low carb diet with all the junk food begging me to eat it. I've gained 6 lbs. since they moved in in so now the goal is to get back on track. It's been fun reading different recipes on this blog so I thought I would join in. It helps to have a group of like minded people with the same goals chatting and giving encouragement. I'm so happy that I found this site.

I can do it!

Hello all - I'm new to this site. I've tried it all - had lost 60 pounds on the Atkins Diet but up about 25 pounds just can't seem to get myself back on track. I am getting married next Spring and I'd like to take 40 pounds off by Christmas. I know that's an eager amount but I think I can do it if I put my mind to it. I have 15 weeks if I can average 2.5 pounds per week I can do it! Any ideas to keep me motivated? Looks like some of you are vets at this!

Hello, I'm here for fellowship and recipes! I keep losing the same weight over and over again. I fall off the carb wagon being bored with straight protein and veggies. I am currently at my goal weight, but want to keep it off this time. And above all, i want energy! When I eat carbs, i seem to have a lot of it. We have land and with it comes much work so energy is vital! BTW, I'm 54, married 33 years, four grown kids, one grand and many critters. Thanks

Hi, everyone. I was on here before but lost internet access for a while. I'm a T2D who is trying to eat a lower-carb WOE but I'm on insulin as well as metformin so I don't think I can do a drastic low-carb drop.

Hello Everyone!! I have just found this website, I have been looking at it all day!! I love the motivation and the support that I see.

A small something about me... I am 38yrs old, a mom to 3 kids. My oldest boy is 19 in the US Army stationed in Korea. My other 2 are 11 & 13.. I work full time outside the home...

The good Stuff:
2005 I started Atkins weighing in at 240lbs, in 2009 I reached goal of 130, by strictly Atkins and a religous exercise routine--to the point of being addicted to exercise.

Around that time, my then marriage went to crap--ended up divorced---blah blah blah

now in 2013, I am back up to 175.5; I am angry at myself & It's time to re-visit good ole Dr. Atkins!! I am pumped up and excited.. I am thrilled to have found and ACTIVE group!!

I have browsed the threads, and I LOVED the shopping with $20 thread... I've made my shopping list ... I've ordered my KetoStix!!

I am "only" on day 2, but I can tell my mindset is back to being determined, its back in the right place...

I am also, getting married again April 2014, that alone is enough to motivate me to lose these 45lbs!

Thanks for having me, I look foward to getting to know everyone!!

hi, everyone! I'm Joy, and Valid Rouge is my horse. I hope to get to know everyone around here.

My story is similar to yours Spunkimamma. I did Atkins back in 2005, lost almost 100 lbs and was running half marathons and doing all kinds of weight lifting and looked AWESOME. I lost my way, ended up divorced, changing jobs a couple times having a lot of high anxiety illnesses in my family. Returned to my lifelong bad eating habits and here I am almost back to my highest weight.

Anyway, I've started and relapsed several times this year, but I have somehow made it down almost 16 lbs from my highest weight. I've been cheat free since July 7, 2013 and have lost around 13 lbs in almost 3 months. It's not what I am used to...and the last month I've watched the same pounds come off and then go back on, but I'm sticking to it.

Looking forward to having the support of this community.

Joy
