Blinkin' 'eck, I'm getting healthy!
Had a bit of a revelation today - husband and I have taken up photography as a major hobby in recent months (we're hoping to make a business out of it at some point) - so today, we went to some local woods in search of a stream where we could practice our 'blurry water' technique (didn't happen for several reasons, including awful weather during which we got hailed on, but I digress). Anyway - we got there, and trudged off through the mud, about a mile down a path to a stream. Took the pics, trudged back to the car. I had NO backache, NO need to stop and recuperate, felt energised by the whole thing - it was wonderful, despite the weather - totally silent apart from birdsong and the pitter patter of the hailstones around (and on!) us. This time last year, I would have been a total mess - out of breath, horrible back pain, sore feet - 60+ lbs off, no longer smoking, and WOW! - I feel like I'm 10 years younger :) Got home, and then spent 30 mins throwing things for the dogs in our field. I am really excited about how WELL I feel - I used to be scared of doing stuff where I had to move, because I knew it would bring on all sorts of nasty symptoms (breathlessness, palpitations, aches and pains) - and now, I'm looking for more fun things to do over the summer in the Great Outdoors :D

If Dr Atkins was still alive I would want to kiss him - he has enriched my life in so many ways, made SUCH a difference - and all that's without even thinking about how much better I look (not really bothered about that, tbh, at 50+ you take what you can get when you look in the mirror!), nor how much easier clothes shopping is now that every shop sells things that fit me :)

Just having a bit of a froth, because I know there are people here who will understand how I feel. It's just brilliant :)

That sounds like a great day. Congratulations on your weight loss and improved health.

Being physically active is one of the many reasons why staying at goal is so important to me. I hated worrying about getting out of breath and sweating and staying behind everyone else if we were hiking or walking somewhere far away or going somewhere up high and having to climb 10 flights of stairs . Now I can actually enjoy nature and being active without any weight related hang ups.

Thanks for that upbeat message, dark ginger.I am so looking forward the day when I am not positioning my self behind pictures when photos are taken.
You are my inspiration. :hugs:

I love stories like this, Ginger, where people tell us how things have improved since they lost the weight. It's inspirational and makes me excited for my maintenance time. Thanks for letting us know.

Yes, there are many of us who understand exactly how you feel because we feel the same. Heck , if Dr Atkins were alive I too would be willing to give him a ......serious bro-hug to show my appreciation.

Thanks for reminding us to appreciate our accomplishments.

:high5: Congradulations to you on being smoke free  Thats not an easy feat to beat. Along with staying with your diet it too, your amazing, and a inspiration for us all.

I'm feeling it here too. I can now push the lawnmower 1/2 an acre non stop. And I turn 65 this month.

Enjoy your summer fun :)

Way to go DG. November 2012 was a year for me being smoke-free. It does make a difference.

My congrats, too. I know how you feel, or at least I can think I know how you feel...I'm not at goal yet, but halfway there and already feeling much better (and I'm 70 plus).

BTW, back in our photo days, we smeared a bit of petroleum jelly on a lens to get the "watery" effect in pictures....a UV lens, that is, not on the camera lens itself. Good luck on the business. When Sear's closed their photo salons this week, and everyone was moaning the passing of an era, I had to laugh and cheer. When they added them, they put thousands of small photographers out of business and chortled as they did. Times they are a'changing.
