My 'secrets' or lessons that I learned for my body are this:

1) stress reduction
2) enough sleep
3) NO processed foods/bars/powders of any kind
4) NO sugar of any kind except whole fruit (1-3 pieces per day)
5) Coconut oil/coconut milk
6) NO dairy (that was a major one for me...lost 7 lbs just from cutting it out)
7) Half a plate of veggies plus protein and a fat per meal
8) No snacking. If I'm hungry, I eat bigger meals. If I MUST eat a snack, I eat protein and fat.
9) Vitamins/minerals (magnesium chelate, vitamin D3, potassium, fish oil (3 g per day), in particular)
10) No caffeine after 12 noon and no more than one cup of coffee per day (I make a mean coconut milk latte)
11) Weight lifting, gentle cardio, yoga...nothing too hard/stressful...just movement with a light sweat and moderate heart rate (~120-140ish and up to 160 max)
12) I don't cheat or take tastes of anything off-plan. If I want a treat, I allow it without guilt and don't consider it a cheat. I make sure I really, really want it.
13) Lastly, I don't eat wheat, grains, or beans, too. It's basically a strict Paleo- type diet. I hate labelling it "Paleo". I prefer 'whole foods'. I cook a lot!

I totally understand!! It took me 2 years to do this and an 18 month stall. Just keep pushing through until you find what works best for you!!

The stalls are a killer, huh?? I kept waiting and waiting and reading and reading and tinkering and tinkering. Better than giving up, I guess?! I guess the lesson learned is that persistence pays off eventually! Hang in there!
