Is Butter as Good as Coconut Oil?

Coconut Oil: from healthfood store, organic, expeller pressed, Refined because I do Not like the taste of coconut.

Butter: regular plain ol' butter, un-salted.

Purpose: (1) for making bulletproof coffee, with just a drop of hc.
(2) small amounts licked from a spoon, to fight the hungries.

I like the taste of Butter much moreso than Coconut Oil.
But healthwise and LC-wise, is one any better than the other?
Or are they both the same because they're basically both oils?

I don't know if all the health claims about the miracles of coconut oil are true, but here's a nice summary:

Health Benefits of Coconut Oil | Organic Coconut Oil | Organic Oils

Personally, it gives me loads of energy, which butter simply doesn't. Also, you can buy the expelled-pressed kind that doesn't taste like coconuts.

For bulletproof coffee, sure. For everything? No.

You should have BOTH in your diet, they both do different things. Butter from pastured dairy provides vitamin K2, which is essential to good calcium absorption and regulation, and a good source of vitamin A--it's a health superfood. The benefits of coconut oil are referred to above--different, but no less important.

You can definitely make your bullet-proof coffee with butter, but try to get pastured, organic butter whenever possible, because that's the most nutritious.

If you really hate CO, you might consider buying MCT oil. It's completely tasteless and you can use it in your homemade salad dressings and in smoothies--it stays liquid where CO does not. You'll get many of the benefits of CO from MCT oil. Just add it in to your diet slowly to avoid GI distress.

On the subject of coconuts, can someone explain the choice and tradeoffs between light and reg coconut milk? And what about coconut water . . . one my daughters loves it and another doesn't care for it, but does it have anything to offer for the low-carber, that would be me.

Regular coconut milk is like whole dairy milk--full fat. Light coconut milk is watered down. Blech--don't bother.

Coconut water is the carby (though delicious) nectar from the inside of the coconut--the water that sloshes around. It's NOT Low carb.

Coconut water is not low-carb except in comparison to something like, say, full-strength concord grape juice or something silly like that which you weren't gonna drink anyway...

However what c. water is Really good for is helping with t.o.m. issues. (In particular, cramps.)
