First mini vacation since started...advice needed

This weekend I'm going to Tucson to celebrate a friend's birthday. I'm going to cut out frankenfoods starting this week. My friend is not a low carber. I'm flying there. What should I bring for snacks for emergency? I can't bring bars since I'll be cutting those out. I can't do nuts yet?

Ideas appreciated! I want and need to stay successful. I have no intention of going off track this early in the game...

Thanks for your help!

Beef jerky. There are some brands without sugar, or with very minimal sugar. Pork rinds, of you like them. Salami or pepperoni, if you have a way to keep them cold.

I have heard of people taking cooked bacon on a plane.
I do believe nuts stall me but in this situation they may be a good alternative.
Stalling is better than gaining. I would try to be very strict with the amount of nuts eaten at one time. I think it is best to stick to almonds, walnuts or macadamia nuts.
Good luck....it can be done.....I went on vacation a few months after starting this WOE and lost 3 pounds. It felt fantastic to come home, step on the scale and see the number!

Last time we fly, I packed wraps made with lunch meat and cheese rolled up with mayo and lettuce for us. I just put them into one of those cooler bags and they were fine until mid-afternoon. I'd also bring some sliced peppers, beef jerky, pre-weighed 1oz bags of almonds, and coconut oil in a double-sealed container. If worst comes to worst, just scoop or pour some of that into coffee or tea.

Have a fabulous time!

If I had to choose between off plan or the Atkins bars, the bars win every time. I wouldn't hesitate to take as many as you think you might need for the weekend to keep from eating off plan.

For me the goal would be not wrecking my LC lifestyle and anything, including the frankenfood, that supported that would be okay since this is a special situation and you won't have total control over your food.

I definitely take those little packs of pepperoni you find in the pizza section with me sometimes, and Babybel cheese I believe can do well without refrigeration for a little while too. I used to snack on beef jerky a lot too, and pork rinds

Oh, and I love macadamia nuts too now! I used to be all about almonds but macs have higher fat which is ideal for me

The only caution I would add to that is that they not only stall some people, but they also cause cravings. If that's the case with the OP, I would definitely figure something else out.

I can't eat the bars, due to allergies, but I know the shakes do some funny things to me (including triggering bigger hunger later), so I use them only in a true emergency. I would pack other stuff as much as possible.

That's true. I know the OP doesn't have a problem with cravings from the other thread she posted. But if a person didn't know about that and had time it would be worth testing it for a couple of days to see if they make you crave. Then you'd know whether this is something to put on the 'OMG no' list of possible LC friendly on the go food. I mean, even if they make you stall it'd still be worth it if the alternative is something carby since this is in the context of short term use for a day or three.

I haven't eaten/drinking any of the Atkins stuff in over a year I think. As far as I could tell back then they had no effect on me one way or the other but they are kinda expensive (in the 'gosh this is a frigging ripoff' sense) so I never did use them very much.

I am cutting out the bars starting today! I was only eating half a bar/day, one bar a day at the most but I think I would have been lost more if I cut them out, truthfully.

I also love the idea of babybells, pepperoni baggies and beef jerky! All things that don't need refrigeration. I was a little nervous about the trip cause I have no idea what's in her fridge. But so long as I have some stuff to snack on, I will be okay.

I definitely agree that taking a little pause in the actual weight loss is much better than going completely off plan.

What about just having a full meal beforehand and skipping all snacks and drinking enough water? Looks like your flight will be pretty short too.

I have a trip planned for the middle of April. Flight leaves at 745 and it is a 5 hour trip. I looked at the inflight menu and nothing is low carb. The thought of eating nuts and beef jerky for two meals is going to be hard. I may look into getting a little cooler.

She's staying in her home, from my understanding, so she's looking for things to bring along into a non-LCing household.

I think Babybel are okay for half a day or so without refrigeration.

The good thing is that me and my friend love to eat out so I think most of our meals will be "out" so I can easily find low carb stuff on the menu.

But I will not be taking a vaca or a standstill. It is too early in the game to be doing that. I learned the hard way last time. I was 8 weeks into LC and on my bday I ate cake and it went downhill from there. I can't play with fire this early ;(

If you are staying at someone's house I would skip bringing stuff and just hit a grocery store while you are there- so easy to pick up some eggs, cheese, and bacon to have in the morning (but she will probably have at least eggs and cheese)

Individual serving packets of Artisanal coconut butter are also great if you can find them!
