Adding in fruit and ketosis
I'm not there yet, but am pretty much in ketosis all the time. I had a handful of grapes the other day and was surprised that night that I was still in ketosis....I had figured that the grapes would have knocked me out:dunno:

So for those of you always in ketosis who started adding in fruit, did you still maintain the state of ketosis or was that something you had to let go of?

I wouldn't think a handful of grapes would do it, unless you were extremely carb-sensitive. A grape is about one gram of carbs each, so a handful is maybe 6-10g? Granted, they're extremely high-glycemic, but that's still not much.

To answer your question, when I do eat fruit, which is extremely rare (like a few times a year rare), I eat very little, with a high fat food at the same time (like cheese or a bit of real whipped cream), to slow down the absorption. It does not knock me out of ketosis

ETA: there's a reason berries are the first fruits on Atkins' carb ladder: they're a fairly good choice, overall, if one really wants fruit. Add the antioxidant factor, too.

I ate a lot of chocolate (dark chocolate) last night and I magically lost 4lbs overnight (I typically vary 2-3lbs from morning to evening). I definitely had about 20g carbs in that chocolate, but I don't think it knocked me out of ketosis, which surprised me. I love oranges and especially clementines, so I'm wondering if I eat a few pieces of that if it will be ok?

I appreciate your quick response Ntombi. I find I really only want fruit when I am thirsty and someone else is eating it......I should have just used that as a clue that my body needed some water!

Today I actually wanted some grapefruit when someone was eating one!!!
