Ewwwwww!!! Cellulite!
So Im losing subcutaneous fats, and I am losing viscereal fat and its all good and wonderful, until this morning when I looked in the mirror and saw hideous, ugly cellulite from my hips to my knees!!

What the heck caused that? Never had it before. Is LC somehow unevenly causing fat removal?

try dry brushing.I am guessing fat cells are emptying unevenly?Lots of water,self massage and dry brushing all help a bit.Vitamin C tablets help collagen production too.

Everything like slightly looser skin etc settles in 6 to 12 months.Only -badly- stretched skin and stretchmarks are permanent.

what you eat to lose weight can't affect something like that. it's just your body doing its thing. what will be will be, try not to fret about it. you are probably just being extra critical now since your body is changing. good luck.

The cellulite is stretched muscle fibers under the skin--caused by weight gain and/or genetics. Losing weight just makes it more apparent, but it has nothing to do with low-carb eating.

Back when i was 330+ I had NO cellulite!! Nada, NONE and now at 172-ish,...:annoyed:

:dunno: I'll go by what the folk here have said, cause other than that, i just don't get it..Oh well...

The fat stretches out the skin,less fat and the skins settles into its contours.Cellulite is genetic to do with the way we store fat apparently but aggravated by diet and being heavy masks it sometimes.

don't worry until you have been your goal weight for a year.Sometimes the body needs a while for bits that will go back into place etc to do so.

It's good to know some of it might go back to how it should be... I'm getting tired of looking at my cottage cheese tummy and thighs! They're shrinking, but eesh. What's left is a trainwreck :annoyed:

That's encouraging :) I'm only 27 (though I guess I look about 16 everyone says :laugh: ) so I have age on my side... I was a yo-yo-er though, so I know my skin got pretty stretched out. Especially around my midsection thanks to PCOS. That's where I carry most of my fat, and I have stretch marks like mad because of it :annoyed:

I'm hoping since I'm still pretty new to the weight loss and this WOE things will tighten up and look better over time... I plan on trying Callanetics too when my video comes in the mail. I know that's worked wonders for others :)

anything that keeps body fat down,keeps up collagen production(enough water,protein and vitamins esp. C)and time is all you can do except surgery.

I dont have good luck or genes :D

I do a fair bit of exercise tho 5-7 days a week for 20-40 mins so hopefully it'll go...

The other day my husband commented that I'd lost a lot of weight in my legs. I was surprised at his comment, because my legs have always been the smallest part of my anatomy - I carry the majority of my weight in my torso and lower abdomen. When I expressed my surprise, he said "Yeah, there's a lot of hanging skin there now". :annoyed:

So of course, the first thing I did was rush to the bathroom to check it out in the mirror. Not hanging skin, just cellulite.:sad: But man, talk about a backhanded compliment . . .

My husband came to me already trained out of that stuff.He grew up with 3 sisters and his mother none of whom are shrinking violets:)

Even skinny people can have cellulite. It is all hormones and genetics. It isn't all about your weight.. Here is more information about it.. This was written by Peter Crosta M.A. He really explains it very well and he tells you how to lesson the appearance of it. I, myself am trying the cupping method. I will let you know if I see a difference. :)

Cellulite is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most noticeble on the buttocks and thighs, and usually occurs after puberty.

Cellulite is often classified using three grades: •Grade 1 cellulite sees no clinical symptoms, but a microscopic examination of cells from the area detects underlying anatomical changes.

•Grade 2 cellulite requires the skin to show pallor (pastiness), be lower temperature, and have decreased elasticity, in addition to anatomical changes noted by microscopic examinations.

•Grade 3 cellulite has visible roughness of the skin (like an orange peel) along with all grade 2 signs.
Although cellulite can affect box sexes, it is much more common in females, mainly because they are more likely to have particular types of fat and connective tissue.

What causes cellulite?
The causes of cellulite are not well understood, but there are several theories that have been put forth as explanations. Among these are: •Hormonal factors - hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Many believe estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.

•Genetics - certain genes are required for cellulite development. Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.

•Diet - people who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.

•Lifestyle factors - cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.

•Clothing - underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the formation of cellulite.

How can cellulite be removed?
There are several therapies that have been suggested to remove cellulite, but none have been supported in the scientific or medical literature.

Therapeutic methods that are physical or mechanical include: •pneumatic massages
•massages that stimulate lymphatic flow
•heat therapy
•radio frequency therapy
•magnetic therapy
•radial waves therapy
•electrical stimulation
Unfortunately, none of these methods have been scientifically proven to work.

A second class of cellulite removal strategies consists of drugs that are supposed to act on fatty tissues. There is a wide range of pharmacological agents which are used for getting rid of cellulite, including:•methylxanthines (caffeine and theobromine)
•beta-agonists and adrenaline
•amino acids
•ginkgo biloba
•Indian chestnut
People with cellulite have tried to apply these agents topically, orally, or by injection, but none have been proved effective.

Some people with cellulite wear special clothing called compression garments to reduce the appearance of cellulite. These garments try to compress arteries and increase blood and lymph flow to reduce visual cellulite.

Cellulite reduction techniques such as liposuction and dieting actually do not remove cellulite. However, eating a healthful, balanced diet and exercising may be the best way to reduce the fat content in cells and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
How can cellulite be prevented?
Eating healthy, low fat foods such as fruits, vegetables, and fiber can help one to avoid cellulite. Similarly exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and reducing stress are recommended to prevent cellulite. In addition wearing thongs, boyshorts, or looser fitting undergarments can prevent cellulite that might form due to tight elastic.

I have cellulite on the back of my thighs and I have been at this weight for at least two years so I think it's here to stay.

I didn't even realize I had it - I always look at the front of me and my husband never said anything (brownie points for him. lol!) until one day I caught a glimpse of my backside.

ACK! Guess I'll stick to knee length shorts or capris. I'm 51 so I'm sure age has something to do with it too.

I lost my cellulite at my last few pounds. It was pretty bad on my bottom. Now I've gained some weight but I'm still mostly cellulite free. (Maybe a little on upper thighs.) I don't know if it was getting to a certain weight, eating certain foods (low carb, of course and I do like veggies), or just time that did it but you should know it's not something that will definitely never go away because it's just genetic. And I can tell you for sure I never watched my fat intake. I would just keep on being healthy, be happy about the positive changes, and don't focus on it too much.

This. Skin stretched tightly will mask it. I'm pretty thin and I have it. The only time I MOSTLY was without cellulite was when I got down to 116 pounds...briefly! It most definitely looks worse when I eat too much salt.

I have some too and feel like it's just something I deserve for getting that fat in the first place. Sucks but I still look better in clothes then when I was fatter and it wasn't there.

I've also read "dry brushing" can also help.. you might want to Google that when you're bored.

I weigh 95lbs and have loose hanging skin because I have lost a lot of body fat over the last couple of years. It looks like cellulite but it is really adipose cells that have lost their fat content. I am not sure if you are talking about cellulite or loose skin. Because they are different. Cellulite is dimply and is different than loose skin. Cellulite is caused by a lot of storage fat in the adipose cells, which stress the connective tissues and give the dimple appearance. Loose skin, is from a loss of contour and shape in the area in question. It is a combination of deflated muscles and a loss of subcutaneous fat. The deflated muscles comes from a ketogenic diet and not doing strength training or weight lifting for the muscles in the area. The loss of subcutaneous fat is just caused from dieting. To fix the loose skin, you can stop dieting and try to build the muscle in the area of question. If that doesn't work you can try plastic surgery but I have consulted a plastic surgeon about mine and he told me that they do a combination of liposuction and skin tightening. I don't need or want liposuction, so plastic surgery wasn't an option for me. I am just going to try to fix mine by building the muscle underneath the skin to regenerate the contour shape of my body that I have lost from dieting.

I am the OP of this thread.

Since my initial issues back in March, nearly all of the cellulite has gone, apart from some residual lumps around the top of my thighs. As I am relatively young, I have had some skin shrinkage around my bum, thighs, and belly, although I dont have great expectations for the final results belly wise - I have had two kids :)

Because of that, I do not believe exercising those particular muscles will add much definition - I work out quite a bit between my physically taxing jobs and my atheletic hobbies. I dont want sugery on my belly either. I am the mother of 2 teenaged girls. I earnt a bit of loose skin :)

I did a bit of photography work, and despite the amount of working out, and how fit and toned i was, i still had cellulite on the back of my legs - I did find a method that helped

- now this is going to sound so weird, so no-1 judge me LOL, but my thoughts when it comes to cellulite is to stretch the fibrosis connectors which connect the skin to superficialis layer, so i purchased a cheap "suction device" on ebay (it was a chinese cheapo) ... and found the suction on it was pathetically poor, and was a pointless machine

- BUT i decided to get a powerful suction happening, i attached it to my (adjustable strength) vacuum cleaner hose with duct tape. I would mix some oil with coffee and massage the area with the suction cup.

Its intense and you can see the skin being pulled into the cup, and this for me stretched the fibrosis causing the cellulite.... 20min massage on the butt/saddlebags and i was golden, i did this before a photoshoot .. alot of people who visited me or seen my strange suction cup attached to the vacuum hose where very uncomfortable, as they assumed they invention was for a sexual purpose LOL

heres a pic from ebay of what i used -

THEN after seeing how it pulled the skin in, i decided it needed to be massaged - so i purchase a cheap roller/massager intended for cellulite, and with a knife i cut the roller and the inner post from the sides of the stick, and used a hot glue gun to glue the roller inside the cup, so i could roll the roller while the cup suctioned.

LOL yes, i am a weirdo, i have alot of crazy little inventions round the house, four years ago i built my own little table to be used while on the exercise bike, and made a rule if i was on the computer i had to pedal, ofcourse i had to remove the handles on the bike and built the table from wood. People who visited me thought of me as a nutter - half a bike, vacuum with a cup attached ... and thats just the beginning LOL...
