New Store Find (for me)

In the northern San Francisco bay area we have "Dollar Tree" dollar stores, which have pretty mediocre offerings.

But this last weekend I went to a new "99 Cents Only" store. THEIR PRODUCE IS GREAT!

For either 99cents or 2/99cents, they have good examples of many of the vegetables we love, and in most cases a nice bagful, not just a single item. I was particularly pleased to get a package of those little Persian Cucumbers which are lovely but normally so pricey at the regular grocery stores. How about 4 red or yellow peppers for 99cents? at this time of year, that's great!

Hey, I'm from the bay area too.. where is this store at? I must go!

I am a big fan of the 99 cents only store also. I live in the Bay Area town of Alameda, and I frequent the one in San Leandro. -It's at 699 Lewelling Blvd. It really does have amazing produce and lots of other fun items too.

Loved getting a good sized cauliflower for 99 cents!

Wow -- a small cauliflower runs us $2.99 where I live.

I know! I was shocked.

I did not know that store even had produce. Thanks for the tip, I will check them out.

When we lived in Vegas a few yrs ago, we use to go to the Amazing 99 Cent stores there and would find organic vegetables and berries(esp early morning) and sometimes you could find other organic products. I live in a very rural area now and none of that kind of shopping here.

Ugh, I was so happy to find it for 2.50 at Trader Joes- my local market sells them for 3.50

I wish we had Dollar Tree around here! I always go when I visit family in Queens...I will check the produce next time! Thanks for the great tip!

Same here, we have a cheap chain of frozen food stores in UK called Iceland, and they do fruit and veg really cheap. Berries and cabbage and cauliflower, perfect :)

I love the 99 cents only stores too!! I like the bbq flavored pork rinds (surprisingly, not higher in carbs than the spicy ones! 1g carb per serving) and yes I get produce there, cheese, eggs, wylers light (similar to crystal light), even frozen shrimp!! The canned coconut milk i bought there tasted gross to me, but for 99cents, worth a try I think!

It's a shame, but it seems that the "wealthier" areas here in so cal don't even bother with these stores... yet that is where the good jobs are lol so while I am not wealthy, i hate commuting and rent a dinky studio apartment for $500 more a month than a much larger apartment 40 miles inland would be (where 99 cents only stores abound)!!! lol so whole foods ($$$$!!!!) is the closest grocery store! ... Without a 99 Cents Only store in sight... *sigh*

PS... tip... ask the Manager when they get their produce in... it's a certain day of the week (the one I used to go to was Tuesdays) and that's when it's freshest and most abundant some stuff, like broccoli and romaine lettuce, go really fast!!!
