Anybody out there eat duck?
 
I bought some yesterday because I've always wanted to try it. I liked the taste well enough, but I probably only ate about 3ozs and was only able to eat 1/2cup of my veggies for dinner. I was stuffed! I know that duck is fatty, but I have never experienced this before.

Wow, I love duck but I've never had that happen to me before! I kind of wish it did... I remember countless trips to Mongolian BBQ, filling up plate after plate after plate of duck stir fry back in the day :hyst:

I have it at my MiL's house -- roasting it is one of her specialties. :) We like it with lots of red wine to combat the dryness.

Yes it was a bit dry. Very good though.

I've made this and it was not dry at all.

I sprinkled Chinese 5 spice on my duck. Placed the whole duck in a pot. In the bottom of the pot i placed a metal steaming/colander dish in it. Put some water in the pot and steamed the duck for 30+mins. Save the broth and refrigerate. Separate the fat and broth for use at another time.

i removed the duck and added a few more spices. Then poked a fork through the skin all over the place. Put the duck on a roasting pan. And cook until it reaches the desired temperature.

The skin gets crispy and the meat stays tender.

Duck is awesome! I wish I knew people that hunt...but I guess I could always get it from a Chinese restaurant. I've never seen it in a store here.

If you live in an area with a decent Asian population, look for a a market that caters to them. I go to a local Asian market all the time, and duck is ALWAYS available. Not only whole, but parts too. Asian and other markets that cater to recent immigrant populations are treasure troves of meats, seasonings, and great condiments to expand your recipes and palate. :) I go at least once a month, and I try to buy at least one new (to me) product every visit. Not to mention that things like coconut milk, sesame oil, and shirataki noodles are a fraction of the prices found at supermarkets!

The closest one to me is an hour away, but I'm going to have to go visit. Hopefully they have duck there. I found some shirataki noodles at a local health food store, in my hometown no doubt.

I love duck. We hunt, so we get duck, pheasant, goose, etc, but our local grocery also carries duck. We rotessierie ours.
